While the Kroot made gains in the jungle, they failed to gather allied support as they fought alongside the 13th company in a defeat against the Legion of Alistar. Master Shaper Krae Oaka had promised the wolf lord a victory in the hopes of some more advanced weaponry as a reward, but failed to aid the wolves to achieve victory.
The Legion shot down their foe to a man under the direction of veteran sergeant Drakus. Geoffrey the great knarloc, however, angered the techmarines of the chapter by destroying another Legion vehicle, this time a predator, before escaping back into the jungle. The techmarines swore revenge on their newly despised foe. The Legion, angered by the cowardly hit-and-run tactics of the 13th company with their Kroot allies, left the jungle altogether to establish a base of operations dangerously close to a Necron hub of activity.
The 13th company suffered a disastrous loss against their former battle brothers, decreasing the already heavily depleted ranks of the lost company. Retreating to an undisclosed location, they swore to remain hidden until the opportunity arose.
The Witchhunters and Death Fists avoided combat altogether. Chaos took territory to the south, including the inhospitable Southern Island, while the Witchhunters remained around the relic they had first claimed upon planetfall, probing it for secrets. It was at this point that Talisman sent word to all the commanders, challenging them to a duel. Wary, each army sent its commander with a full complement of bodyguards, and a few surprises just in case.
