I Don't Know You Anymore...But I Do

I would like to visit you for a while

Get away and out of this city

Maybe I shouldn't have called

But someone had to be the first to break

Sam stared at the phone still in her hand, and the other hand hovering over the dialling pad. She sighed. It was just like the other hundreds of times she'd wanted to call Daniel, make sure he was okay. It had been a year since Sha'rui, a year since she had been killed by Teal'c.

Daniel had left, straight afterwards, not wanting to stick around. He had felt there had been no point. Sam could still remember their conversation, in his lab as he had packed up.

** "Daniel, you can't go. We need you here, with us"

"I'm sorry Sam. I have to go. I have no point to stay now. It's all over for me. Good luck" he had picked up a box and started to walk out, when Sam had blurted it out.

"You can't go. I'm in love with you". Daniel had just turned to look at her, and all his reply had been was.

"Do you?" **

Sam cringed even now at the doubt in his voice. That voice, it had made her doubt herself. She made the call. He had given his number to the SGC when he had moved, just in case Skaara was found.

We can go sit on your back porch

Relax, talk about anything

It don't matter

I'll be courageous if you can pretend that you've forgiven me

"Dr Jackson". Oh that voice. She had waited so long for that voice.

"Daniel. It's Sam"

"Sam"

"Daniel, I was just wondering if you'd like to come over. I need to speak with you."

There was silence on the end of the phone.

"Okay. I'm at 2153 Jameson Drive." And he hung up. Sam stared at the phone for a few moments more. It was Daniel, but it wasn't. She hung up and grabbed her coat.

I don't know you anymore

I don't recognise this place

The picture frames have changed and so has your name

We don't talk much anymore

We keep running from the pain

What I wouldn't give to see your face again

Sam stood on the doorstep, only half an hour later. She waited for a moment, took a deep breath and rang the bell. Moments later, the door opened. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes. He was there! In front of her! Her heart leapt as she looked at his face. She had waited so long to see his face again.

"Daniel"

"Sam"

Just saying each other's names spoke volumes between them. Sam's conveying 'I missed you, please...forgive me', Daniels saying this ' Why are you here? Why?'

"You had better come in" he turned and left Sam at the front door. She followed him through, and closed the door behind her.

"We all miss you Daniel. Jack says that it's never been the same since you've gone." Sam didn't add that Jack had missed Daniel more than any of them, and was close to being kicked out. He didn't have his Space Monkey to protect anymore, and he had felt like there was no point anyway. He'd let Daniel down.

"I'm sure" was Daniel's distracted reply. Sam looked around the hall and then moved into the lounge, and only then did it click what was wrong. There were no artefacts there. Nothing.

Springtime in the city,

Always such relief from the winter freeze

The snow was more lonely than the cold

If you know what I mean

"Where are your artefacts and stuff?" she asked him as he came out with two mugs of coffee. **Coffee, that's more like the Daniel I know** she thought to herself, pleased that not all of him was gone.

"They reminded me too much of the SGC and Sha'rui" was his only reply.

Sam sighed and then spoke.

"Daniel, I have a reason for coming here"

"Of course you do. To convince me to come back?"

Sam shook her head. "I know you well enough to see that your not going to be coming back after a year. Oh and Jack says that you won the bet. About him saying that you would be back in a week"

She was pleased to see that that comment drew a smile out of her old friend.

Everyones got an agenda, don't stop

Keep that chin up

You'll be all right

Can you believe what a year it's been?

Are you still the same? Has your opinion changed?

"Daniel, that's not what I wanted to talk to you about" she took a deep breath to tell him the next thing. "When we were in your office, on the last day. I told you something" she took another deep breathe and he interrupted.

"Its okay, Sam. It's been a year. I know you didn't mean it"

Sam stopped and stared at him.

"What makes you say that?"

"You would have been here sooner if it was true."

Sam shook her head violently. "No, that's not true. I still love you Daniel! Why can't you see that?"

She thought about what a year they had just had. She'd almost lost her father to Sokar; a strange little guy had appeared in their minds, she'd had to go to Col. Mayboure for help.

"I saw it as a reason to keep me there. And it didn't work" he was defiant now.

**Why the hell can't you tell her Daniel?** his mind chided him. **You feel the same way, you know you do. Face it and tell her**

Daniel opened his mouth to speak to her, but she was already on her feet.

I know I let you down, again and again

I know I never really treated you right,

I've paid the price

I'm still paying for it everyday

"I can't believe you just said that Daniel Jackson! I can't even believe I am here, listening to this!" she turned to go and he jumped up and put his hand on her arm and turned her to face him, cupping her face in his hands

"Sam, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I never treated you properly after you said that. I should have called you. Told you. I never meant to say that to you, to walk on you. I miss you Sam. From the moment you told me that you loved me, I realised that all along I had felt the same way. But it was too late. I paid for that wit my loneliness. I wanted you here Sam, with me. And I'm going to be paying that price now, everyday"

He finished and let go of her,

So maybe I shouldn't have called

Was it too soon to tell?

Oh what the hell, it doesn't even matter

How do you redefine something that never really had a name?

Has you opinion changed?

"I'll understand if you've changed your mind now" he said and picked up his still full coffee mug and left to go to the kitchen.

Sam stared after him for a moment. "I still love you" she said out loud and she heard the smash of a coffee cup in the kitchen. She dived in there and saw him staring at the doorway where she was stood.

"You do?" he asked, confused. "But I was so evil towards you...I mean cruel and...and" she moved over to him and put her lips over his kissing him lightly and then pulled back.

"Okay, I'll shut up now" he agreed and she nodded as he leant down and kissed her again.
