So Sam decided that maybe that wasn't something she should say to Jack. But with her head resting on his shoulder, his hand on her hair, it was something she couldn't get out of her head. "It's all right. Were going back...were going back." Sam nodded into his shoulder, but all she could think about was Daniel. He wasn't dead. Her heart was soaring bu her mind was numb. He'd been alive then, but was he still alive now? Jack must have been thinking the same thing. He remembered the tears on her face as she had jumped up, the way she had choked out the words. "We left him behind" "So I was right" he said, whispering in her ear. "You love him don't you?" Sam stayed still for a moment and then nodded against his shoulder. Mackenzie was still watching them, so Jack hugged her more tightly. She knew that she couldn't explain it away to him, that he knew it was true. They'd gone back to the planet to find him, but Sam was feeling desperate now "Maybe we're too late." her voice sounded hopeful that she was wrong, that Jack would prove her wrong. "Were not leaving without him this time Cap ..." he started and then stopped when he saw the monster coming out of the lake. He was about to shoot him when a head popped up to the surface. Attatched to a body. Daniels head. "Wait!! Don't shoot!" he called out and swam to them. He pulled himself up onto the beach and Sam smiled, inspite of herself. She looked at Jack and he nodde at her. "Nem, you have your answer, now let us go." Nem sighed. "You may go." "I'm sorry I couldn't give you the answer you wanted." "I am sorry also." "We could still become friends, your people...and...and mine." "That's why we were here, we meant no harm." Sam threw in her piece quickly, just in case he didnt believe them "Perhaps...in...time." "Right" Daniel nods, and the Monster heads back into the water. SG-1 watches him go. Sam smiles and walks towards Daniel. Everyone else follows. Sam was annoyed that they followed. She had the urge to hold him, tell him everything. "Ah, this...this is a long story." Daniel started, waving his arm towards the sea "Yeah I bet!" Sam grinned. Jack smirked. "Tell us about it over Sushi?" the others groaned. "...That's funny...Uh I will, after I go get some sleep." Daniel yawned Daniel started to head towards the Stargate. Everyone else followed, smiling. "Ah...home...yeah about that apartment..." Jack started, sounding nervous Daniel stopped. "Oh you didn't!" "Uh...the day after the memorial service." Sam winced "Memorial service?!?" Daniel stopped, shocked and then started again shaking his head. Sam laughed. "Colonel, said some really nice things!" Daniel smirked. "He-he did". then he realised what Sam had said "He did?" They'd been back at the base for about half an hour when Daniel realised that Sam hadn't said two words to him since leaving the planet. He was still in the infirmary, with Janet. She'd insisted on checking him out completely. "Dr Frasier" he asked quietly. "Is Captain Carter okay?" Janet sighed. The image of Sam shivering, in shock over his loss, not as calm as the others. She had taken it worse than Jack or Teal'c, and had spent most of the time being sedated so that she wasn't hysterical. "Captain Carter, Sam, had a hard time accepting you were dead" Daniel nodded. "I was scared. Scared I would never see her again" then he added quickly "Scared I wouldn't see any of you again" Janet looked at him and then added slyly. "She underwent hypnosis in the hope of finding you" Daniel blinked. "She did?" Janet nodded, continuing with her tests. "Colonel O'Neill told me that she got very upset when she realised that you were still alive" She didn't add that Jack had also told her what he had realised afterwards. "I'm sure" replied Daniel, absently. She got upset? he thought to himself. Maybe she feels the same. no. she's military. i'm civilian. it probably wouldn't work. But when i was there.. "I thought I would never see her again" he whispered out loud, finishing his thoughts off. Janet looked at him and nodded. "I knew it" Daniel looked back at her. "Knew what?" "That you're in love with Captain Carter" "Janet...." Daniel broke in to try and deny it "She loves you too Daniel" "...I don't think....what what what?!" he stopped midsentance. "She..she loves me?" Janet nodded as Daniel jumped down off the bed, and made to run out. "Daniel?" "Yes?" he stopped at the door "You might need these" she threw him his pants (trousers) and he blushed. He put them on quickly and ran out bare foot, towards Sam's lab. Jack ventured out of Janets office and smiled. "So we were right" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sam was in her lab trying to work out some technology that SG-3 had brought back. She was also trying to keep her mind off Daniel. I bet he's back in his lab thinking about Sha'rui she thought to herself, and then shook her head and said out loud. "Thats no fair Sam. You should help him find her, not hate her for him wanting to find her." "Find who Sam?" asked a voice from the doorway. She turned, startled and jumped to her feet as she saw Daniel there. "Daniel...Hi....how are you feeling?" she pushed out thinking that she had just made one huge mistake. "Find who Sam?" he asked more quietly, moving across the room until he was infront of her. She looked at him. "I'm sorry Daniel. I shouldn't be bitter." Sam mentally berated herself for it. Another fine mess you got us into Sam. her mind told her, whilst her heart soared at him being this close. "Sam, Janet told me about how you were when you got back..." "Daniel...look...you have to forget it you have to find.." He leant down and pressed his lips against hers softly, silencing her. He broke it off, and pulled back to see how she felt. She blinked and then smiled at him. He smiled back and leant down, kissing her again. Maybe blood is thicker than water for friends as well as family Sam thought as she kissed the man she loved.
