Heart of the Storm

Prologue

“It’s a Gundam!”  shouted a frantic pilot just before his mobile suit was sliced in half from a beam saber.

“Where did it come from?!  There’s no data on it!” shouted another before his suit met the same fate.

“It is a Gundam!” shouted the pilot commanding the squadron of twenty plus mobile suits.  “All pilots return to base! Retreat! Re…AAAAAHHHHHHHH….!”  The commander’s suit and four others were taken with one attack from the Gundam’s heat rod, exactly like the one that was on the Gundam Epyon.

The suits scattered in all directions, their main goal, to escape the Gundam.  No matter which way or speed they went, the Gundam was too fast for them.  The game of cat and mouse continued for ten more minutes.  Just as this single Gundam destroyed the last of the mobile suits, another suit entered the battlefield.

“I’ve finally found you, Tempest,” said its pilot.

Text appeared on the screen in front of him.  “Welcome, Wing Zero.  You’re a little late for the battle.”

Heero smiled, a rare occurance.  “So, I noticed.”

The text continued.  “But, if you think you can take on me and Maelstrom, you’re welcome to try.  I need a challenge.”

A voice came over the comm of both Gundams.  “Tempest.  Report.”

The text appeared on Wing Zero’s screen as well as the screen at Preventer HQ.  Mission Complete.”

Heero stared at the Gundam named Maelstrom.  “That’s my line.”

“Not anymore.”
Maelstrom pulled out its beam saber.  “Shall we?”

Wing Zero pulled out one of its sabers.  “Mission Accepted,” stated Heero.

The two Gundams went at each other in a grueling dual.  While the strength of their sabers were almost the same, the power behind Maelstrom’s attacks and the strength of its armor were slightly greater than that of Wing Zero.

After several hours of fighting, both Gundams put away their sabers.

“Mission Failed, Mr. Yuy,” came the monotone female voice of Maelstrom’s pilot, known as Preventer Tempest.

Can’t be her.  Heero stared at the Gundam.  “This isn’t over, Tempest.”

“It is, for now, Mr. Yuy.  I have other things to tend to.  We’ll continue this at a later date.  Ciao.”

Maelstrom headed for Earth.

Heero stayed in space a little while before heading back.  “Trinity...”  He closed his eyes, remembering the day that he lost his parents. The day he and his sister were separated.  He had long forgotten that day, yet, recently, as he noticed Relena’s and Milliardo’s brother/sister relationship growing, the nightmares came back.  And now, Tempest’s voice.  Was it really Trinity?

<<<Flashback>>>

“Mommy?”  A five year old boy wandered around the pile of rubble that used to be his home.  The soldiers came with no warning, no mercy, only to destroy everything in their path.  There was still fighting further down the street, but it had seemed to cease here, at the moment.  He heard piles of rock and concrete shifting behind him.  He turned and saw a girl working her way out of the rubble.  She was five years older than he was.

“Trin!”  He ran over to the girl, trying to help her out, but her leg was trapped under a large piece of concrete.

“Little brother, you have to go.”  She looked behind her where the soldiers were making their way back.  “They’re coming back.  Hurry before they get here.”

“I’m not leaving you, Trin.”  The boy’s eyes pleading at his sister.

She shot him an angry look.  “Go now!  Go anywhere.  I’ll find you.  We’ll be together again, but you have to go NOW!”

The boy was fighting back tears.  “I love you, Trin.”  He kissed his big sister on the forehead and ran.  Where he was going, he didn’t know.  But he didn’t look back as he heard more explosions.  Screams of panic-stricken civilians, hoping to whatever god he could that one of them was not his sister.

But she never did find him.  He assumed she had been killed that day.  And now, the voice, the piloting skills, the attitude.  Was Trinity the Preventer, Tempest?
