BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ARTWORK:
Any conflict involving the Yoruba and Hausa
tribe is potentially very serious. They are two of Nigeria's largest ethnic
groups, and the two most powerful. Sizeable Yoruba and Hausa communities live
side-by-side in virtually every Nigerian City. So, problems between the two
groups have the potential to spread. It is a crisis Nigeria can ill-afford.
Ever since independence in 1960, Nigerians have found it difficult to live
together as one nation. In fact, many (like myself) have not yet forgiven
the British colonialists for arbitrarily throwing together myriad ethnic and
religious groups, and then leaving them to try and get on with each other.
Today, ethnic regions and groups have become so militant in their quest for
autonomy, more power and separatist states. If Nigeria must move forward (as
a nation), then every ethnic group must learn to live in peace amongst one
another. But if these ethnic problems continue, then we all are left with
a divided nation. We are one big family. We must always remember that.
