"Hey you guys! Where did Jess go?" Aaron yelled over the music that filed the house.
"I think I saw her go out back!" A voice in the crowd yelled.
"Well Aaron, this is it," he whispered to himself as he slid the screen door shut. "Don't screw up."
When his eyes adjusted to the light he saw her moonlit silhouette swing slowly back and forth on the swing. As he made his way toward her all he could think of was how angelic she looked at that moment. When he reached her he gently set his hand on her shoulder. "Hi Aaron."
He carefully made his way around her and propped himself on his toes, taking her hands in his. For a while all he could do was stare at her. His head and heart pound in time as he took in his last breath. "Jess," he shifted his feet and brought her hands closer to him.
They stared in each other's eyes as he began to speak again, "Jessie,
I was mad at you
And made you cry
You ran away
With no goodbye
You yelled at me
'Oh screw you'
There went the love
I never knew
I sat and thought
I wondered why
Would you ever see
How I feel inside
I felt the tears form
I knew I was wrong
Then I heard something
It was a song
Remember when we never needed each other
The best of friends like sister and brother
We understood we'd never be alone
Those days are gone,
Now I want you so much
The night is long,
I need your touch
Don't know what to say
Never meant to feel this way
Don't wanna be alone tonight
The tears kept falling
I stood up
I new I needed you
And how bad I messed up
I ran out the door
And to your home
You were on a walk
Mad and alone
I ran all around
Screaming your name
Couldn't find you
I was going insane," Tears were pouring down Aaron's face as he continued.
"I saw a man run
Out from the bush
If I'd known then what he'd done
I would've kicked his toosh
I wish what I saw next
Hadn't been real
But it was
So beside you I've kneeled
You're in a coma
I don't know what to say
But I promise you
That I won't go away
Your hands are like ice
Your forehead, like fire
You're hooked up to tons
Of bright colored wires
Your dad knows I love you
You mom knows it too
The whole world could see it
All I need now is you
The doctors they say
There still is hope
But they're aren't sure
How you will cope
All my days and nights
Without you are hard
I begin feeling like
All hope has been charred
Every moment I can
I come sit by your side
My feelings towards you
I no longer can hide
I can't guarantee
What the future may hold
But you are the one
With the key to my soul
I wish I had told you
Right from the start
That I truly loved you
From the depths of my heart
I need you now more than ever
Right here by my side
Even if as just friends
My love forced to hide
You're waking up
I just saw you move
Now it gets hard
Now I must choose
I told you we're friends
And I love you for that
Then on my true feelings
I firmly sat
I've sat here
For such a long time
The day has come
I must make you mine
I've fallen in love
With my very best friend
I tell you this
Praying it's not the end
I love you
With every beat of my heart
And I never ever want
Us to be far apart
All I'm asking of you
Is three simple words
"Yes I will"
And we're off to the church
I know that you're weary
But baby in time
You'll see what I mean
When I say girl you shine
So make me the happiest
Man in this world
Grant me a kiss and
Show me that you're my girl
Just in case
You've forgotten that part
I love you
From the depths of my heart."
Tears were streaming down Jess' face as Aaron slipped the ring on her finger. "Jess?" Aaron whispered.
When there was still no response Aaron became scared, "Jessie" he whispered oblivious to the hot tears streaming down his face.
"Aaron, don't cry I love you." Jess took his face in her hands. "Of course I'll marry you Carter. I love you." As her lips met his, their tears mixed in a pool of hot, salty liquid on Aaron's shirt.
