“Thanks to kayjays girl, we booked Mike Ellis as our
DJ!! Yes, yes...I was going to do this great MP3 player music thing but
here's the deal. I am not a loud speaker. It's hard to hear me sometimes when
you standing right next to me. So we knew we needed some kinda speaker
microphone at Cuvier. Most places wanted $200 and up for us to rent the
system. Then started getting worried about who will announce the wedding
party and us, how will the 1st dance work out, what if the MP3 player messes
up, how can we time everything on the MP3 player so that it can play the
right song at the right time for cake cutting, how will we get sound for our
Photo montage video???? Knew we didn't have much $$. And then Gwen mentioned
how wonderful Mike Ellis was. Great does not explain him. FREAKN' FANTASTIC
does!! I can't say enough about this guy so far. We wanted a lot of old jazz,
big band stuff and guess what.....he used to work for a jazz record label, so
he has tons of stuff!!!! Then we told him about Cuvier's and the
lack of electricity. He first was going to bring a generator and
my fiancée asked if he had a DC mixer (ok don't
really know what this is - but I know it's battery powered, you can plug
the speaker and mics in to it, and it doesn't make any noise like the
generator does). He said he didn't have that....but had been meaning to buy
one so he won't charge us to rent one!! WOOWOOWOWOWOOW. |

“I'm glad that Mike worked out for
you guys! We're looking forward to working with him. I love that
he's all about what the couple wants, you know. And that's awesome how
accommodating he is for you! That makes me happier that we booked him.” |

“We clicked with Mike right away, musically. He's very
affordable AND has insurance coverage!! He played my play list and then some.
He had people on the dance floor getting down. We kept our music selection
for dinner to the romantic stuff, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, etc. and
then more Motown and Funk for the party times. He pulled out some very
compatible music and was involved in the reception as much as I wanted -
coming out to the dance floor after the anniversary dance to ask the winner's
the secret to a long marriage - stuff like that. And, whenever we had to
adjust the schedule, he was all over it. He also provided the microphones for
the ceremony.” |
|
“I highly recommend Mike Ellis...he’s always been very
polite, very relaxed, but still obviously a fun guy. I didn’t email him our
list of music until the week before the wedding, and he got it all. We had
some bumps and glitches on the day of...but Mike never skipped a beat. He was
right on top of things...and was by far, Kj’s favorite vendor. And the man knows his music. He is all
about pleasing the bride and groom, and really did an excellent job.” |

· Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes,
we carry two million dollars in liability coverage. · Q: Do you use a
contract? A:
Of coarse. We offer a legally
binding contract that insures you
receive all the services we agree upon.
Also, in case of an emergency on our part, (this hasn’t happened
before), we must provide you with a suitable replacement. · Q: What if you have a
technical problem...do you bring backup equipment? A:
We better.
Any professional knows that electronics cannot be trusted. Although we have top-of-the-line gear, we
have backup amps, microphones, mixers, cables and MP3 players and a spare
computer in case of any possible situation. · Q: Speaking of equipment, do you use professional gear? A: Indeed we do. We have some really cool stuff. See more on our Equipment page. Be careful of amateurs bearing house speakers and receivers. · Q: What about your
music selection...what can I expect? A:
We have 40,000 titles from the 30’s through the hits of today. All genres are covered and updated each
month. We’ll likely have 90% of what
is requested and guaranteed to bring 100% of your pre-requested song
list. · Q:
Do have cordless microphones? If so, do you charge extra to bring
them? A: We have multiple cordless mics and
never charge you for them. Some DJ’s
will charge you, but this is just a cheesy sales tactic to get more
money. These systems are tiny and actually
take less time and effort to set up than corded mics. · Q: Do you have dance lighting? A: Yes, you can order a great light show
for your event. We have laser and
intelligent lights and also a fog machine.
Your party will become an instant nightclub. It’s a great way to push the fun to the
next level. · Q:
What are your rates? A: Costs
vary depending on the date, time and type of event. Our prices generally range from $80-$125
per hour. For example, a Wednesday
birthday party would be $80 per hour, but a Saturday night wedding would be
$125 per hour. There’s no cost for set
up and breakdown. Lighting and karaoke
are $100-$150 each. Our competitors
usually range from $200-$400 per hour.
Since we utilize free web ads and word-of-mouth, we can pass the
savings onto you. Plus, we’ll negotiate to beat others! · Q: Are you willing to meet for a consultation? A: Certainly. We will give you a free consultation with
no obligation. Any DJ who refuses to
meet you is not worth hiring. It also
may indicate that they’re a bit shady. · Q: Are you going to play the Macarena or Disco Duck at my
wedding? A: Only if you beg! :) On our wedding format you can outline all
the kinds of music you like and especially the music you don’t like.
Mike is considered by many to be the “anti-cheese” DJ. The typical DJ songs may not be played
unless specifically requested. We customize
each event for every couple and group.
Each party is different and deserves special consideration of personal
taste. You may love the Electric Slide
or you could hate it. Some couples
want the Rolling Stones, others are into 50 cent. Some like it all. We tend to mix it up, but will take into
account your desires and rejections.
After all it’s your day, not ours! |

Mike’s main sound source are the
Mackie
SRM 450’s.
Featuring 800 watts and frequency response that produces highs to 20
kHz...that’s the full range of human hearing!
|
|
The mixer of choice is the
Mackie
DFX-12. I don’t
know of any other DJ that uses a 12 channel live sound mixer. Most just go with a basic DJ mixer. They’re okay for some events, but if you
want to mic musicians for your ceremony or have the whole bridal party sing
karaoke together, this is the way to go!
Plus it sounds better than a DJ mixer.
Mackie rules! |

The PCDJ system featuring the DAC-2 controller is
the ultimate for today’s digital DJ.
It has all the controls and features of pro-CD players and more! The PCDJ software has multiple ways to
arrange song lists and can be fully automated. |

If your ceremony is at a park, on the beach or in
the middle of nowhere, the
Hisionic HS-322 is on
the job! It’s battery-powered so
there’s no electric required! It has 4
cordless mics and inputs for a portable MP3 player. It also has enough power for 300
guests. |

Since 95% of our business
consists of weddings, it’s safe to say it’s our specialty. We offer you 15 years of experience hosting
hundreds of ceremonies and receptions.
You’ll receive our wedding format which will outline song selections,
names of the wedding party and all other important information about your
unique day. Each couple and their
family and friends are different. We
totally customize according to your instruction. Some people love country, some hate
it. Some folks like their hip hop,
some want none. We’ve had brides ask
for the YMCA and others demand it does not get played. We’ve even hosted receptions that wanted
only jazz...all night! Whatever your wishes, it’s our command! |
