Crono
Time period: 1000 A.D.
Crono is the main character of the game. He is a teenager from Truce village. Throught the game, he says nothing. Contrary to popular opinion, I don't think he is mute. Since he is the main character, and he is the character you play in the "first person", it is you who is talking, so you don't see Crono's words on the screen. A example is how he tells people his name. He wouldn't be able to if he was mute! Despite the fact that he 'doesn't talk', we know much about him. He is a brave and fearless hero, who is always thinking of others, but he tends to be impulsive and irrational at times, which can land him in trouble (big time).
Marle
Time period: 1000 A.D.
Marle's real name is Princess Nadia. She is the heiress to the Kingdom of Guardia. Despite her royal upbringing, she detests royal life, and formal titles. She therefore has escaped the castle where she was brought up, and has gone out to see the world. Marle is a very kind and sensitive person, but she can have quite a temper at times, especially with the royal guards! She yearns for a normal life, and would rather live amongst the common people, rather than the gentry which she was brought up to one day rule over. Marle is Crono's love interest in the game.
Lucca
Time period: 1000 A.D.
Lucca is Crono's best friend. They grew up together, and Crono has seen her grow into a scientific genius. She is a great inventor, and her ingenuity often gets the team out of trouble. Lucca tries to be modest, but she is the most inelligent of the whole team, and she knows it! Lucca, along with Crono and Marle, are the main three characters in the game. She plays a vital role in the fortunes of the team, and she has even been known to make cameo appearances in other games!
Robo
Time period: 2300 A.D.
Robo is robot. He was restored to operation by Lucca, after being dormant and damaged for a long period of time. Things had changed so much for Robo in the intervening period, that he decided to join the team, as he could at least be of some use to them. He is very fond of Lucca, and is grateful to her for restoring him. During the course of the game, Robo develops quite human characteristics, thrrough numerous life experiences. He eventually develops emotions, and is capable of understanding the value of life.
Frog
Time period: 600 A.D.
Frog is a Knight in the Kingdon of Guardia in 600 A.D., who was originally a human. He is extermely brave, and is a master swordsman, but he is wracked with self-doubt. He has come a long way from his humble beginnings, but is obsessed with slaying Magus, for what he did to his best friend (and to Frog himself). Frog is one of the most interseting and well developed characters in the game, as he is a bit of a grey area. He is a good person at heart, but he spends his time plotting to kill Magus, which is far from angelic. Frog may become human again one day, depending on what happens in the game.
Ayla
Time period: 65000 B.C.
A prehistoric woman with super-human strength, Ayla is a force to be reckoned with. She is the Chief of Ioka village, and she is as strong a leader as she is a fighter. She is remarkably agressive, and is quite un-lady like at times. She values strength in perople, above everything else, but she is always ready to protect those who may not be so strong, and those that she cares about. Ayla is an interesting character, as she turns out to be a very important person, as is discovered at the end of the game.
Magus
Time period: 600 A.D.
Evil master magician, and leader of the mystic army, Magus is the arch-enemy of the Kingdom of Guardia. He has sent may men to their deaths. He will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. However, this
goal is not what you may think. Despite Magus' considerable faults, he is much misunderstood, and his actions are mostly misguided attempts to suceed in his life long quest. Magus is an optional charcter,
and whether or not you take him can considerably alter the course of the game. Magus is a loner, and is not really friends with the rest of the team. He is however, devestatingly powerful, and his brutal nature
can come in handy from time to time. Magus is a pivotal character in the game, whether you choose to take him or not.
