The Brazilian Invasion - Part III
The bus was almost
empty and it was nice having two seats just for me, at least I
could try to sleep in a *more comfortable* way. I should know
better... sleeping is *not* something you can do on a bus. At
least, not on the ones I got.
First stop, New Jersey. 30 minutes there. Freezing is too little
to describe that night. I really don't know how people can live
with a weather like that.
Each 2 hours (sometimes less than that) the bus stopped. People
going out, talking, lights on. I gave up sleeping and went out to
smoke.
Cleveland at 2am. Really, really cold. Almost one and a half hour
there waiting for the next bus. Yeah, there I realized that I
would have to change buses very often until Tulsa. And when
you're alone with all those bags in small bus stations without
even carts this is not a pleasant thing *at all*...
Breakfast somewhere in Indiana.
Chicago at around 11:30. More 30 minutes waiting. Finally, we
left. Less than one hour to Aurora.
AURORA
Got there at 1pm. Mary was waiting for me at the station. Third
round of "bags vs. cars". :)
It was not so cold, thank God. I still don't know how I didn't
get a cold...
Aurora is a nice small city. But not as small as I thought. I
liked there very much.
We went to Mary's house, very charming and cozy. I found a yummy
chocolate cake waiting for me! Yeah! :) Delicious...
We talked, saw photos, she showed me her dragon's collection.
Amazing! :)
Talked a lot with her father, a really nice guy. Knew the cats.
And then, especially for me of course, it started to snow!!!
(Mary's words: "I told you the girls at
the office said the next time you wish to see something fall from
the sky, it should be money. The timing of that snowfall was so
strange and coincidental...")
Beautiful! Mary can tell you how I was like a kid seeing that for
the first time. At night it was all white and I was
amazed. :)
Then we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. Great food, big
margueritas. My kind of place, as you may have noticed already...
;) After dinner, we went to Borders and she bought me a yummy hot
chocolate. And there was that Kama Sutra episode also... uh,
better keep going... ;) It's such a funny feeling, you know. You
spend more than one year talking with someone so far away, and
she tells you about herself, her days and all the places she
goes. And, suddenly, you're there with her, knowing the places you've heard about so
many times... it's REALLY like a wonderful dream coming true!
After it, we went to a grocery store and bought some tequila and a marguerita
mix for later... and Mary always told me that she didn't really
like margueritas, only frozen ones if so... am I a bad influence or what? ;)
We made the margueritas and watched that Buffy episode with
Willow in leather (oh my... *drool*). Then we decided to go to
the movies, "Shakespeare in Love". My first movie in
the US and it was *private*... just us seeing it. :) The movie
was great! Where can I find a Romeo like that??? Or Juliet??
Doesn't really matter!! ;)
I think you can call it a pretty busy day, huh? And a wonderful
one also, that's for sure.
Next day, I woke up around 9, had that wonderful cake and a
"special" coffee for breakfast (Mary told me that her
mother made it stronger just because of me, I am always joking
that American coffee is just a colored water... :) ). More
pictures and filming outside and inside. The snow
was even prettier.
Her dad showed me the garden tractor with a blade attached to the
front like a little snow
plow, and wanted to see me driving it... I thought it was safer
for everybody if I kept just taking pictures and filming... :)
Unfortunately, my 23 hours in Aurora were ending... :( Mary took
me to the station and I got the bus to Tulsa at 12pm. The last
part of my trip... more 18 hours in a bus... *sigh*
Now, I'm waiting for you here, friend. Anytime. :)
