Spooky was Our CAT
Most people would dismiss her as just a 'pet', but she was so much more than that. She was a member of our family for 16 years. She was a sister, a friend, a caring and perceptive feline empath who would pick up on any variations in the emotional condition of her family and respond with hugs (literally) and unconditional love. She thought she was human, and after a while, I think we just accepted that as a fact, and that 'someone' just got the packaging wrong this time around. Whatever belief system turns out to be the right one, we fully believe we will se her again, and that we'll all laugh about our time together during her cosmic 'mistake'.
We miss her no less than if she WAS human. She was that much a part of us, and loved just as much. Now, though her spirit and memory remain with us always, her physical presence is missing. And it hurts us all more than any of us can put into words. If she were here she would comfort us by snuggling against us and getting us to play with her to take our minds off what was wrong. It usually worked, and how we all wish she was still here so we could tell her how much we appreciated and loved her. She was old, and knew her time was near, but people are never really prepared for a loss like this, so she spent time seeking us out, having stories read to her or just being held. We've said our goodbyes, but that doesn't really fill the emptiness. Only the memories of out time with her can come close to doing that. Our lives are better for having known her and loved her, being loved by her and having her in our family. We'll see you again, 'Spooky Cat'.
