Plot Summary
The Wen family has only one daughter named Wen Tsun Ching who has outstandingly skills in both martial arts and academics. In order to study, she dresses and acts like a man. No one suspects she is a lady, including her close friends, Tu Chuan Tze and Tu Tze Chuang.
Her parents want her to marry with one of her friends, because this secret cannot be concealed forever. She's reluctant to choose a husband, so she prayed that her marriage should be the will of fate. Then she shoots a bird and prays that whoever 
picks up this arrow first will be her husband. After that Tze Chuang sees this arrow and admires the skill of the archer and takes it to Chuan Tze. With an anxious mind, Tsun Ching goes to her school to see who picks her arrow and she sees Chuan Tze holding it. Instead of being happy, she's confused and unhappy to marry Chuan Tze, but she accepts it as fate.
One day, her father is arrested and sent to the court in the capital. Her mother is very worried and becomes sick. Finally, Tsun Ching decides to not join in the examination. She blesses her friends to pass this examination. Both of Chuan Tze and Tze Chuang promise that if they pass, they will surely help her father.
Months later, Tsun Ching learns that her friends have passed the examination, so she want to visit them. On the way at mid night, she sees a bandit trying to rape a lady, Ching Fu Chun, but she helps her just in time. Fu Chun is very impressed with her bravery and she wants to marry him. (Tsun Ching is apparel, Fu Chun thinks that she is a man. ) Tsun Ching declines, but Fu Chun insists and tells her intendtion to her parents. Fu Chun's father tries to change her mind, Tsun Ching cannot accept this proposal and doesn't know how to deal with it, so she invites the Ching family to meet her parents.
Tsun Ching meets Tze Chuang and have a dinner together till late in the night. Tze Chuang invites her to stay overnight in the same room. She immediately refuses, but he insists. For that reason, she has to pass that night with him. In the early morning, Tze Chunag sees Tsun Ching who is sleeping, and is amazed that she looks like a lady, but he does not believe it. On the way back home, he tries to compare many things to hint that Tsun Ching is a lady, but she denies. They arrive an abandoned temple to rest, Tze Chuang pulls out her hat and believes firmly that she is a lady, so he proposes marriage to her. She's sorrowfully to rejects this proposal, because she'd already decided to marry Chuan Tze who has picked her arrow first. Chuang Tze reveals the fact that he is the first one who picks it up. She's very happy to hear that and accepts to marry with him.
On Ching family's side, they visit to Tsun Ching's house to meet her parents. Their aim is to betrothe their daughter to Tsun ching. Consequently. Tsun Ching told the truth that she is a lady, so she can't marry Fu Chun. Fu Chun is very disappointed. Tsun Ching thinks that Chuan Tze who is not engaged, is a suitable match for Fu Chun.
In the end, two couples get married with their lovers.
Review
This film is another good film of Ivy. In this film, Ivy shows her performance not only in acting, but also good in singing. With regard her acting, she acts well in both male and female role. You'll not be annoyed or feel like there is any mismatching in role. With regard to her singing, she shows her ability in both soprano and alto voice. However, it's a pity that this film is not digitally restored. Thus you may not be fully jubilant in progressive continuing. If it's released by the Celestial Pictures Limited, you should add it to your collection!!!
