Summary
When a young heroic solder and a spoiled imperial princess tied the knot, what lies ahead is nothing but trouble. Prior to becoming the imperial-son-in-law, Kuo Ai had agreed upon three set of rules given by the Princess.
1) He must live in the imperial palace after they are married
2) He will not to enter the room if no red lamp is at the entrance
3) He will pay her the respect as a ruler before taking her as a wife
For nearly a year, marriage life was treating this newly wedded couple with full of happiness and love. However, the Princess pushed her luck a little too far by refusing the pay her parents-in-law a visit on their 70th birthday. During their intense argument, the Princess double dared Kuo Ai to hit her. Can't control his anger, the young husband did not hestitated to give his imperious wife a lesson.
When this matter was brought to the Emperor's attention, not only did he refuse to punish the son-in-law but had also promoted him. Seizing the opportunity, Kuo Ai asked for the three set of rules be abolished ... effective immediately. Knowing that the rules were not reasonable, the Emperor agreed. After causing many problems, the Princess finally understood that not so different from others, as a woman she must follow and obey her husband.
Review
This is one of those pure entertaining movies without any intense action, drastic plot twist, or extreme comical touches. Because the nature of this film is so light, the audience can watch it for more than once and not having to come across the feeling of boredom or redundancy.
Both Ling Po and Sylvia Chang were great in this movie. Sylvia amazes me with her ability to do Huangmei Opera film. As a long time fan, I'm pleased to come across some of her earlier work. This movie is a must have for Ivy's and/or Sylvia's fans!
