| Lugh also called Lamfada Long hand or Samildanach many skilled or Ioldanach Master of all arts. The Irish god of the sun and medicine, Lugh is the son of Diancechts son Cian and the Fomorian Ethniu Daughter of Balor. Like all of his Kin, Lugh excels on the battlefield and has his own distinctive weapons and armor. His nickname Lamfada is well earned through his prowess with the rod sling and the Gaels called the Milky Way Lughs Sling in honor of the sun gods particular skill. Lugh also possessed a spear which had a bloodthirsty essence to it. By steeping the head in pounded poppy leaves would Lugh keep his spear from finding its own way to the battle field. The spear came from Gorias, one of the 4 mythical cities of the Tuatha. Lugh is also known for his skills in music, He is a master of the sleep tune the plaintive air, and of dancing music which sends listeners into joy Lugh made himself known in Tara, the Tuathas capital city at a time when the Fomorian king Bress has been deposed and the people are preparing for war against the Fomors. At the door, he would pronounce his lineage: Grandson of Diancecht on his fathers side, and grandson of Balor on his mothers side. The porter of Tara palace demands to know his skill, since no one is admitted unless he or she is a master in some craft, Lugh lists several, medicine, carpentry, smith craft, harping, war craft, pottery, sorcery, cup bearing, bronze working among the many other. When the porter replies that Tara has men that possesses all these crafts and skills, Lugh insists the porter asks the king at once if he has a man that is a Master in all of these skills. Once Lugh is accepted into Tarahe gains admittance to Tara and Nuadas court. Thru several tests, indeed he is found to be master of all arts. Nuada the king decides Lugh may take the throne for 13 days, and that he himself will take the sages chair by his side, while the Tuatha prepare for the battle of the Fomors, the family further agrees to give all direction of the battle to Lugh. This such war was a great tragedy to Lugh for he looses his father Cian to the three sons of Tuirenn, the son of Ogma in which Cian had been fighting previously. When the council decides that Lugh is at great risk, they appoint 9 warriors to guard Lugh, and he is to stay behind while the others battle the war. However, Lugh escaped the warriors, and rides his stead to the battle field to join in the war. Here he gave the speech fighting bravely, so that your servitude may last longer, no longer it is better to face death than to live in slavery and pay tribute. The Tuatha did win the war, and Lugh did survive the battle. |
