Lived beneath the Lake Bala was the goddess Cerridwen and her husband Tegid the Bald.
Having one beautiful daughter and 3 sons, one of which was seen as an ill-favored and repuslive child.  His name was Avagddu.  Cerridwen was a very caring and concerned mother and wanted to find a way of consolation for her son so she created a cauldron of inspiration to give him the ultimate knowlegde and wisdom.

The cauldron plays an important role in Celtic mythology, The Dagdahas the cauldron that give unending nurishment, Brans cauldron gave life back to the dead, and Cerridwens gave knowldege, but was accompanied with three muses.  The muses helped lend in Language, Poetry, and letters. Through her cauldron, she became the goddess of inspiration.

According to the legend of Cerridwen and her cauldron, one day she was gathering herbs of virtue to add to her cauldron, in her absesnse she arranged for a person named Gwion to stir the pot.
Just a few drops of the liquid dropped on Gwens finder, and he discovered that when he put that finger into his mouth, he became a master of knowldege. This enraged Cerridwen, due to the fact she was working this gift for Avagddu.
Soon to follow was a great combat, Celt gods and goddess were known for their shapechanging abilities, she began to chase after Gwion with great anger, resentment and vengeance, Gwion changed himself into a Hare, Cerridewn changed herself into a Greyhound, Gwion then became a fish, and Cerridwen became an otter, Gwion then became a bird, Cerridwen then changed into a hawk, Finally Gwion decided to turn himself into a grain of wheat, and Cerridwen turned into the hen.  Cerridwen soon ate the grain of wheat, when caused her to conceive and later give birth to a beaufiful son named Taliesin.
