Bran the Blessed, son of Llyr the sea god, brother to Branwen, Cordelia Llyr, and Manannan Mac Lir.
Bran was the got of the underworld, whose eminence is most often associated with his the wonderful heard/  Though he could present himself as a principal of battle, Bran was also a patron to the Bards, Minstrels, and musicians.  He was huge, colossal.  No housing or ship was big enough to keep him according to legends.
In the legends Brans sister Branwen the fair Bosomed was married to King Matholwch of Ireland, Due to various affronts of Branwen, not to mention the later death of Branwens son, the Welsh had crossed the Irish Sea to attack the Irish.  Those on the east coast of Erin saw an eerie vision of a mountain and a forest on the water.
Branwen told her husband that the mountain was Bran walking across the sea, and that the forest was a multitude of ships coming to bring her relief.
They landed and fought viciously.  The Irish seemed to have the cauldron of Bran, so that gave them the winning advantage.  The cauldron was given to Branwen by Bran as a wedding present.
The Irish needed to plunge their slain warriors into the cauldron, and they would be brought back to life.  The Welsh discovered the cauldrons powers so they planned to defeat as many  of the Irish as possible, when they were down to seven Welshmen that were left unharmed,  including Pryderi, Mandawyddan, Talisesin the Bard and four others, and at this point, Bran himself was wounded, stabbed in the foot with a poison arrow, he was in complete pain and agony.  Bran asked the seven warriors to cut off his head and carry it to London, and bury it there with his face towards France.  This was so Bran could watch against anyone that tried to attack, or invade Britain.
As the seven men were taking Brans head to France, they stopped to eat, and were greeted by the birds of Rhiannon, which caused them to loose track of time, and for seven years, the seven men, drank, ate and were merry.  They were kept company by the head of Bran, which appeared to be very much alive.  Soon they took the journey further,  this time stopping to have an eighty year feast.  One of the seven men realized that eighty-seven years had passed, and they were still bearing the head of Bran.  Upon seeing Cornwall, they completed their mission and did bury Brans head in France, only to be disinterred by King Arthur in a later myth.
This is how he acquired the name Bran the Blessed it is said to this day that he still blesses, and guards of Britain.
