Below you will find some quotations from the Holy Qur'an explaining the Islamic view about other religions and their followers.

Belief in all Prophets and all Scriptures from God

“Say: We believe in Allah and (in) that which has been revealed to us, and (in) that which was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and (in) that which was given to Moses and Jesus, and (in) that which was given to the prophets from their Lord, we do not make any distinction between any of them and to Him do we submit” (2:136).

“We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you, and our God and your God is One, and to Him we submit” (29:46).

All people had a warner

“And there is not a people but a warner has gone among them” (35:24).

“And certainly We sent messengers before thee — of them are those We have mentioned to thee and of them are those We have not mentioned to thee” (40:78).

"I believe in what Allah has revealed of the Book, and I am commanded to do justice between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds; and for you your deeds. There is no contention between us and you" (42:15).

No compulsion in religion

“There is no compulsion in religion” (2:256).

“Our duty is only a clear deliverance (of the message)” (36:17).

Relationship with followers of other religions

“Allah forbids you not respecting those who fight you not for religion, nor drive you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly. Surely Allah loves the doers of justice.
Allah forbids you only respecting those who fight you for religion, and drive you forth from your homes and help (others) in your expulsion, that you make friends of them; and whoever makes friends of them, these are the wrongdoers” (60:7-9).

Paradise is not meant for a special group only

“And they say: None shall enter the Garden except he who is a Jew, or the Christians. These are their vain desires. Say: Bring your proof if you are truthful. Nay, whoever submits himself entirely to Allah and he is the doer of good (to others), he has his reward from his Lord, and there is no fear for such nor shall they grieve” (2:111-112).

“Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good, they have their reward with their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve” (2:62).

Hieronder treft u enkele Koranverzen aan, die de houding van de Islam tegenover andere godsdiensten en hun volgelingen uitleggen.

Geloof in alle profeten en openbaringen van God

“Zeg: wij geloven in Allah en in hetgeen ons is geopenbaard, en in hetgeen aan Abraham en Ismaël en Izak en Jacob werd geopenbaard en in hetgeen aan Mozes en Jezus werd gegeven en in hetgeen aan de profeten van hun Heer werd gegeven; wij maken geen onderscheid tussen wie ook van hen, en aan Hem onderwerpen wij ons” (2:136).

“Wij geloven in datgene wat tot ons is geopenbaard en wat tot u is geopenbaard en onze God en uw God is Eén en aan Hem onderwerpen wij ons” (29:46).

Alle volkeren kregen een waarschuwer

“Er is geen volk, of een waarschuwer is onder hen geweest” (35:24).

“En voorzeker hebben Wij vóór u apostelen gezonden. Sommigen van hun hebben Wij u genoemd en anderen hebben Wij u niet genoemd” (40:78).

“Ik geloof in wat Allah van het Boek heeft geopenbaard en mij is bevolen recht tussen u te doen. Allah is onze Heer en uw Heer; wij zullen onze werken hebben en u zult uw werken hebben; er is geen twist tussen ons” (42:15).

Geen dwang in de religie

"Er is geen dwang in religie" (2:256).

"Onze plicht is slechts een duidelijke overdracht (van de boodschap)" (36:17).

Vriendschap met volgelingen van andere godsdiensten

“Aangaande degenen die jullie niet om religie bestrijden en die jullie niet uit jullie huizen verdrijven, verbiedt Allah jullie niet dat jullie hen vriendelijk en rechtvaardig behandelen. Waarlijk heeft Allah de rechtvaardigen lief. Allah verbiedt jullie slechts dat jullie degenen tot vriend nemen die jullie bestrijden om jullie religie, en die jullie uit jullie huizen verdrijven en die (anderen) helpen bij jullie verdrijving; en wie hen tot vriend neemt, dat zijn de kwaaddoeners” (60:7-9).

Het Paradijs is niet bestemd voor een speciale groep

“En zij zeggen: niemand zal de tuin binnengaan, behalve hij die een Jood is of de Christenen. Dit zijn hun ijdele wensen. Zeg: breng uw bewijs indien u waarheidlievend bent. Ja, wie zich geheel onderwerpt aan God en de weldoener is van anderen, heeft zijn beloning van zijn Heer en er is geen vrees voor hem, noch zal hij treuren” (2:111-112).

"Degenen die geloven, en degenen die joden zijn, en de christenen, en de sabiërs, wie er ook gelooft in Allah en de Laatste Dag en die goeddoet, zij krijgen waarlijk hun beloning bij hun Heer, en er is geen vrees voor hen, noch zullen zij treuren" (2:62).
