| A lot of mixed (and mainly negative) feelings for Ivica at the end of this season. He regained his place in the Croatian squad, but...became useless at his club. After having rated most of the preparations due to fysical problems, "Moka" still started the season well. New coach Hugo Broos lined him up as a sort of "right winger", which seemed to work out! Ivica's most remarkable performance was without doubt the hattrick he netted in an encounter at home vs Moeskroen. He received a stading ovation! But things changed ; the Croatian star was pulled out by injuries and Broos didn't want to play him again before everything was healed like it should. A frustrated Mornar declared himself fit, but was left out from the team. Only in the last game before the winterbreak (after 3 months of absence!) he was enabled to show up again, in the game against Beveren. In that 15' playing minutes he prooved to be still valuable for RSCA, by scoring a nice goal. Altough Ivica definitely considered a move away from the CDVS stadium, being linked with several foreign clubs (Kaiserslautern, Everton...), he was still there when the competition restarted. "Moka" was hopeful of taking his chance, certainly because main concurrent Aruna Dindade served a ban at that moment. Unfortunately the whole club came to suffer from a crisis, and even Mornar wasn't able to help it. Hugo Broos was under huge pressure, and after a clumsy display at Moeskroen, he decided to turn some things around. First victim was Gilles De Bilde, followed by...Ivica! Broos seemed to consider him as one of the players who were to blame for the lack of performances in that period (Sporting finally clinched a CL ticket), and never appeared in the starting line-up anymore. It was clear that something had broken between coach and player, and both parties opted for a separation. "Moka" was optimistic about a move to Germany or England, but until now nothing moved yet. The only concrete enquiries came from a Russian, an Israelian and an Arabian side, but Ivica isn't interested in such a proposal. Meanwhile he resumed training with Anderlecht, but Broos isn't counting on him anymore at all. We've to admit that with the spectucular development of some Brussels youngsters (Aruna, Lovre, Junior...) and new signings like Zetterberg and Wilhemsson, playing opportunities will be very, very few for him... |
