On Sunday, the 13th of August
there was a memorial for Gary Fletcher Sr., Fletch, or simply
"Senior", everyone knows who you mean if you just say Senior. The memorial was worked into the regular church service at the Fletcher's church home in Urbana Missouri. J.E. vanNatta
held that part of the service. His words were just as they should have been, to the point & in celebration Gary's life & the time that we were priviledged to have had his company. Family & friends were there, Senior would have approved I'm sure. It was respectful & not over done.
The skydiving community was represented by: the Attaberrys, Wolfords, Millers, Hensons, Iveys, and vanNattas, Tom Boice & Tori, Raymond & Bill, Ironman, Susan Love, Terry Wendt, Marnie Fuller, Julie Nickleson, Tim Deegen, and Darren McGloclin. Of course Fletch Jr. was there but as family. he's the head of the house now, I guess. Sue will need his help as never before.
The church put out a meal for guests, the ladies did a fine job on the "spread" Then there was a get together at the Fletcher family home afterward. Wouldn't you know it Skydive videos showing Senior were played & family photos were passed around. Things like this need done again only before somebody dear leaves us.
The pics above are typical of DZ life that Senior was so much a part of. Top pic, he cuts a bit from Colt Wendt's shirt after Colt made his first solo flight. It's a pilot thing & Fletch was first and foremost proud of his years of flying. Getting back into skydiving led him back into flying, that was a very good thing. The next pic shows Gary relaxed & talking with Jim Phillips. Fletch was fun to talk with, he had a way with words & there was always a good chance that you could learn as well as be entertained. There is a pic taken just before (or after ) Fletch Jr.'s 100th skydive. Senior was glad that Gary Jr. came into the sport & that they jumped together. Next is the pic with Sue, Gary & Debbie Eggers. On DZ it was obvious that Sue & Gary were husband & wife, as it was obvious that they belonged together.
