| When they weren't falling, A.I. simply dished to his teammates, averaging 6.8 assists per game for the series. Iverson filled every role the team needed. Even more impressive, he accomplished it with so many injuries that, had it been the regular season, Larry Brown probably would have sat him down for at least two weeks. But that's what being a leader and a bona fide superstar is all about, as Iverson again proved Wednesday night. Maybe the Sixers' Game One victory is an aberration. Or maybe Iverson will indeed be able to lead his team to one of the most improbable upsets in history. But the real story of this season's playoffs has already been written. We have been treated to more great games and seen the emergence of more great players than any of us could have ever expected. Don't let the pessimists fool you: not only is the future bright for the NBA, but the present ain't too shabby either. |
