Bertil Iversen Welcome to my page on the web! This website is dedicated to composer Bertil Iversen from Denmark. Enjoy your stay. Bertil Iversen (1914-1970) was a danish composer, teacher, philosopher and writer. Not very much is known about him or his life, and most of his work never achieved a lot of succes. His best-known work is probably Forklaringer I-IV and his last work Forklaringer V-XI, which he finished shortly before his death in 1970 in Elsjberg. Born in 1914 in Todbjerg, Denmark, Iversen was an autodidact musician and composer. Having experimented with twelve-tone composition in his early period, he entered his ‘modern’ period with his electronic composition “Tilstedeværelse” (1960) and his quintessential piece “Ildtænder” (1961) for flute, tape-loops and percussion. Always fascinated by popular culture - despite being a classical composer himself - and inspired by the famous Eurovision songfestival-incident in 1962, Iversen locked himself up for 6 months to work on his next piece: Forklaringer I-IV (which translates as Explanations). An ambitious, meticulously planned collection of sounds, tape-loops, recorded speech and a score written for flute, choir, and string orchestra. Disappointed with the response that this work achieved (it was largely ignored by audience and critics), Iversen became less productive in the final years of his life. Before his death in 1970 he managed to complete his final piece Forklaringer V-XI, another captivating and unique record in the oeuvre of a remarkable and peculiar composer.
