| My last night in Cairo was not particularly restful. I think the stomach problem that had bothered some of the other folks on the tour finally got to me. I did not sleep much and was tired the next morning. Nonetheless, I wanted to visit the Egyptian Museum before I left. So Joanne and I made the trip in the morning. I spent a couple of hours there and saw some of the sections that we had not visited during our first visit. The crowd and the heat started to bother me and I thought it wise to return to the hotel and rest up for the long journey back home. Joanne stayed behind for a few more hours. I stopped at the Internet Cafe at the Nile Hilton and did some email stuff before heading back to the hotel. That night we had dinner at a pankcake/crepe place near the hotel. The food looked good. Unfortunately, my stomach was a bit queasy, and I stayed with a bowl of tomato soup. The picture below is at the restaurant, my last picture from the tour! Joanne promised to send me the "and then there was one" picture. If she does, I will add it to this page! |

| I left for the airport at 1:30 am to catch a KLM flight to Amsterdam, then Northwest Airlines to Minneapolis en route to Phoenix. I had a four hour layover in Minneapolis. Karen and Gopi came to the airport and we went to lunch at an Indian restaurant. Thanks guys! I must say that the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport is perhaps the worst port-of-entry in the US that I have flown into (sorry guys!). Apparently, the immigration hall was full, so we stayed on the tarmac for a while! Then, there was too much luggage for the carousel to handle, so they started laying bags on the floor! Then they decided to put our baggage out on two carousels! For an airport that handles less than half a dozen international arrivals a day, they sure made a mess! The flight to Phoenix was uneventful, and I reached home at about 6:30 pm. Overall, a wonderful trip, but it was good to be back!!! Thank you all for taking this virtual journey with me. Feel free to leave me a message on the board if you wish. |
