Australian Real Life Events: Hobart to Sydney via Melbourne

Australian Division presents the first of a series of real life events in the Australian FIR.  This event replicates a QANTAS Domestic schedule.  Take off from Hobart (YMHB) in a Boeing 737 and fly to Melbourne International (YMML) in time to make a connecting flight to Sydney Kingsford-Smith (YSSY).  Miss the connector and cost the company a penalty for every passenger on your manifest.

Event Purpose

This event is designed to replicate QANTAS scheduling in southern Australia.  It is also designed to test pilots in weight and fuel planning, and to ensure they have the necessary flight planning skills to comply with scheduling requirements.

The Event Director is the Australian Events Coordinator, Darren Smith.

The Event Monitor (Heavy Aircraft) will be the Australian xxxxxxxx, xxx.

Event Profile

Pilots will be required to register for this event using the IVAO Slot System.  Registrations must be made no later than xxxxZ xx April 2004.

Pilots will commence at the terminal at YMHB.

The basic pilot profile for this event will be:

Brisbane Approach (BN APP) and Melbourne Centre (ML CEN) will be active for all Approach/Departures and Flightwatch requirements as dictated in the En Route Supplement Australia (ERSA).

Pilots operating within the GAAP will be required to fly at least the profile above, before departing the airfield for other sortie profiles.

ATC

Controllers are required to download the aerodrome charts and ERSA segment for the aerodrome they are controlling.  Links to ERSA and DAP are listed below.  Airservices Australia do not provide free downloads of their enroute charts at this point in time so controllers and pilots will not be required to hold these charts.

Notes on Australian FIR organisation

Controllers may open other positions not listed here once these positions have been filled.

Controllers wishing to nominate for positions listed above must email the AU-EC by xxxxZ on xx Xxx 04 with the following details to enable entry into the slot system:

Controllers will be expected to be proficient in english and have a familiarity with the Australian Airspace system.  A knowledge of operations within Archerfield GAAP will be an advantage.  An email containing the appropriate sector file will be sent to the controller upon verification.

Downloads

Pilots are encouraged to download the real world departure and approach plates (DAPs) and en route information (ERSA) for aerodromes they wish to visit.  The links to these are shown below.

There is no specific scenery for this event.  Pilots may use MSFS defaults or enhanced sceneries.

En route planning

Pilots are requested, where possible, to flight plan using the Preferred Routes as shown in the ERSA.  Preferred routes can be downloaded here.  Flight plans must include the following remarks for this event:

Pilots operating solely in the YBAF GAAP may flight plan VFR, YBAF to YBBN to YBAF.

Participation by military aircraft and controllers

Military aircraft are not permitted to enter within 100NM BN unless permission is obtained from BN CEN 20 min prior to expected entry.
