Psalm 118: This is the day

I was riding home from work a few weeks ago, at about 10:30 PM, and it had been a long, hard day. It didn't seem like anything was going well at all. And then God just about kicked me off my bike.

Every day I wake up, eat breakfast, take a shower, and go to school. Every day it's the same old, same old. Every day I crawl into this school asking myself what I'm going to do for God, and it seems like every day I leave without doing anything. But every day GOD HAS SOMETHING PLANNED FOR ME!! Weather it be to spread the good news of Jesus, or even something as simple as praying for someone, God has stuff ready. He doesn't intend on giving us this day for the sure sake of living it. In John 10 vs. 10 Jesus tells us that he was sent to give us life, and give it abundantly. To have it to the fullest! Not to go through life thinking "yup, here is another dayOh boy its Wednesday, woo hoo." No way!

If you have your Bible flip to Psalm 118 vs. 24. David tells us "This is the day which the Lord has made." That is so absolutely true!! Every day is a new day as POD put it. I'm thankful for every breath that I take. I wont take it for granted. Every day is a blessing from God!! Sometimes we go through life taking so much for granted. It seems like every day I will have food to eat, and every day I will have clothes to wear. We should be thankful for the very air that we breathe.

I could probably bet you a thousand dollars that tomorrow will be Thursday. And you would probably owe me a thousand dollars. So WHAT!! That is ALL that I know. Proverbs 27:1 says, "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth." We have no idea what God has in store for us. We have no idea what will happen today. It is all up to God.

As Billy Combs once said, "We live in a society wherea good day is 24 hours of successfully avoiding problems, but a bad day consists of [only] one sour event." When you know that you are having a bad day, maybe you fail a test, or maybe your car broke down, or you were late for school, whatever it may be, remember that this is the day that the Lord has made. Know that you have a God that longs to be gracious to you (as Isaiah 30:18 says). Knowing that THIS GOD MAKES IT A POINT TO BLESS US EACH AND EVERY DAY makes me want to jump for joy!! And that brings me to the second half of Psalm 118 vs. 14 "Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

So as we prepare for finals, as we prepare to live this summer, AS YOU WAKE UP EVERY SINGLE MORNING, remember that each and every day is a new day, and that it is the day which the Lord has made, SO REJOICE AND BE GLAD!! Remember what Jesus said in Luke 12 vs. 22, "Do not worry about your life, as to what you will eatas to what clothes to put on. Look at the birds, for they neither sow nor reap...and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!" Check out those amazing mountains that are always out there. Check out those awesome clouds in the sky. Smile for Gods sake because it is because of God that we have life. So live it the way that God intended for us to. Seriously enjoy it! And I'd like to close with something way cool.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift; that is why we call it the present.
