SOLEDAD
SINGIAN DAYRIT was
a recipient of a very good American education, being one of the first
graduates of the Philippine Normal College. She worked as the Home
Economics Supervisor at the San Fernando Elementary School. And later, was
offered to manage a dormitory for girls by the church. The life of Lola Soleng was dedicated to the church. Her daily routine was spent at the San Fernando Cathedral were she heard all the Masses from sunrise until sundown before going home. She would wake up very early and begin her trek to the Cathedral, usually arriving at about 4 to 5 in the morning, before the doors were opened. The maids who accompanied her usually complained since they were always too early. Most of the improvements of the Cathedral, which are seen today, were acquired through her constant solicitations from generous donors. These include the chandeliers which she ordered from Spain (P5,000 each), the Stations of the Cross (P250 each) and the pews (P150 each). |
