Barrio
San Jose
It has been said that about the year 1602 A.D. (possible error in year, most probably 1762), a group of families of Salas, Tolentino, Abad Santos, Dayrit, Flores and Timbang, in their search for fertile agricultural settlement came to what is known as San Jose barrio.  These immigrants came from Angeles (most probably not all), then known as "Culiat." They brought with them their families, farm implements and other belongings. They grouped together for their mutual protection and cooperation.

At first, the place was a wilderness, being covered by marshy vegetation.  Little by little, clearing were made and the once wild countryside became a haven of comfort for the patient and industrious "Culiat" settlers.

Soon, news of the founding of a new fertile agricultural settlement spread and settlers from other barangays joined them, thus increasing them in number.  The influx of settlers from year to year, trebbled the clearings made, and the settlement was formed into a "barangay" under a "cabeza."

The "Cabeza de Barangay" was the recognized leader in the community.  His words had the force of laws.  He owed his position to the Alcalde Mayor who appointed him to that position.  the first cabeza was a certain "Cabeza Salas," then a Dayrit, then a Tolentino, and an Abad Santos.
