And these girls aren't my teammates, they're family... ~Yanni's profile At the end of the day, when I'm tired from the scrum, when my head pounds, my muscles are tight, my knees bleed and my bones ache... I ask myself, "Is this really worth it?"... and surprisingly enough, I always come up with, "Yes. Undoubtably." ~Yanni IUP Rugby- Ruining lives since 1979 ~SCOOTERS~ *Not just my teammates, my sisters, my partners in crime* You can take us home to your mom, but we'll drink your dad under the table. I believe in the blood on the pitch, the jammed fingers, the broken ankles, the IUP Scooters. The names like Chrissy May & Kristen Double. I believe in rubber balls, knee socks, pouring sweat, & sniffing ass in scrum downs. That we really r Barbarians, & that's y we wear the logo. I believe in mud in every crevice of my body, that we are 15 as 1, that the try zone is home. I believe in the split play, the crash, & 52 potato. I believe in nicknames, tears of joy, pain of defeat, striped collared shirts, 1 shining moment. I believe in tourny season, Sugar Cup, that pain is progress. I believe in our mantra, that socials r the only true way to lose or win w/ grace. I believe that glory is fleeting, that Zulu's r a blessing, & that the line will always have my back. And above all else, I believe in the love of the game. This is what I play. This is what I love. RUGBY IS LIFE. ~Yanni IUP RUGBY...always victorious...cause victory's are won in the heart. ~Heather "Feather" IUP Women's Rugby- The bruises fade, the aches ease, but the friends and the memories are forever. ~Erin Sugar Cup 2005. IUP RUGBY - A beautiful kind of pain... the lovliest that exists. ~Yanni IUP Women's Rugby- "It seemed like a good idea" Scooter (skoo-ter) n. - State of being in which one is lethal, beautiful mess of a woman with a server drinking problem, and tendcancies towards causing utter chaos and mayhem. The term Scooter can also be used to define a group of women who attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania and spend a great deal of their time completely enamored by the game of RUGBY. Caution is advised, for the only thing hotter than a Scooter and her temper, is her passion on the pitch. "Heres to the nights that turn into mornings. . And the friends that turn into family." You don't have to be crazy to play rugby, we'll teach you! Rugby, because concussions are cool If you want your dreams to come true, get out of bed. Rugby is like photography, if you don't focus, all you have is the negative. There are two pains in life, the pain of discipline, and the pain of regret. Take your choice There are really only two plays; Romeo and Juliet, and put the darn ball in the try. Rugby is life, the rest is just details. I would rather be lucky than good. When the games over, leave it on the field. Attitude is Everything! Never under estimate the other team. Wnners are born, Champions are made. Rugby, what can you say, it's self-explanatory. It's not how good you are. It's how bad you want it. Rugby enough said. A true champion is someone who wants to make a difference, who never gives up, and who gives everything she has no matter what the circumstances are. A true champion works hard and never loses sight of her dreams. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. If you face a worthily opponent acknowledge their skills and show them yours. Rugby is FUN. A winner is that person who gets up one more time than she is knocked down If what you did yesterday still looks big to you today, then you must not have done anything today. You spend your life gripping a rugby ball, then you realize it's been the other way around the whole time. Slept throuh my alarm clock, was late for class, completely spaced the test, broke up with my boyfriend, played rugby, not a bad day. Play for the name on the front of your uniform, not the name on the back. You've got to get up every morning with determination, if you are going to go to bed with satisfaction. There's NO crying in rugby. WARNING: The surgeon general says it's OK to smoke the competition. It's not the hours you put in, it's what you put into the hours. Talent is God-given, be thankful. Fame is man-given, be humble Conceit is self-give, be careful. Rugby is played mainly on a five and a half inch field, the space between your ears. Champions bounce back from adversity and rise to the occasion, when their backs are against the wall. Play with your heart, but don't forget your head. Sometimes the only way to tell it's practice, is by what you're wearing. Courage isn't the absence of fear, it's the mastery of it. The want is to play, the desire is to win. Winning is not the absence of luck, it's the pure heart of it. If you have never experienced losing, then in a sense, you would never know how good it really is to win. When you don't practice, know that someone else somewhere is practicing, and when you meet, they will beat you. Never under-estimate the opponent that appears weaker than you, and never fear the opponent that appears stronger than you. Team work is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results. Talent wins games, but it takes intelligence and teamwork to win championships. Champions train, endures pain and never complain. Never let yesterdays disappointments overshadow tomorrows dreams. Winning is something that builds mentally and physically everyday that you train and every night that you dream! We don't wear cups, we WIN them. Rugby isn't that important in life, but it's right up there with oxygen. Rugby is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. No one has ever drowned in sweat. Play for your team, not for yourself. Try your best, put your heart into it no matter what. It's all in your head, so just think. Rugby isn't about you, it's about winning. I'm slow but in my head I'm fast, rugby is 90% mental. The space in between the lines is where you show WHO you are, and WHAT you are made of. Rugby girls are the best, we can do it in 15 postions. If your best isn't good enough, don't complain, work harder. The fundamentals of the game are never going to change, it's the things you do that are going to change! Rugby is just a game, yeah right, and Gold is just a Rock. The best thing about pain is, that it let's you know your not dead yet. Leave the field knowing that you gave it your all and still lost, rather than leaving the field and thinking what if. If you can't do it, ask yourself if you can't or won't. You never deserve anything, and you must earn everything. Together we stand, together we fall, together we're winners, and winners take all. Never let them question your heart. Outside the white lines everyone can be your friends, but when you get in between those lines, it's war. Prim and proper is for prom night, and I'm not here to dance. Young horses run fast, but the old ones always, know the way. Champions are someone bent over drenched in sweat and at the point of exhaustion, when no one else is watching. Seven days without rugby, makes one weak. My boyfriend told me I had to choose between him and rugby. I'm really going to miss him. I wake up thinking about it, I go to school daydreaming about it, I go to practice anticipating it, and I go to bed dreaming about it. RUGBY Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice, it is not something to be waited for, but something to be achieved. Determination is going that extra mile when you couldn't take another step. Take the pain in honor of the game, it only hurts for a little bit! Rugby, my anti-drug. Rugby is about playing for the feeling in your heart, not for the numbers at the end of the game. Every once in awhile, you reach beyond what you imagined your limits to be and perform better than you thought you possibly could. They ask me what I do during the winter when there's no rugby. I tell them I stare out the window and wait for spring. How someone plays a game shows something of his character, how he loses shows it all. To win anything you must be willing to lose everything. The more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed in battle. It's amazing what a team can accomplish when no one cares who get's the credit. We may not have it all together, but together we have it all. If you think hustling is tough, try sitting on the bench. If your hurt, rub some dirt on it. This is rugby, you'll be fine. To some people rugby is just a game, to others it's freedom. You don't have to have the lead, if you have the heart to come from behind. Obsessed, what the lazy call the dedicated. If you follow me long enough, you'll end up on a pitch. Rugby is not a one women sport. You gotta have faith in the other 15 girls out there with you, because you are all playing the same game. You win as a team and you lose as a team. |
| "In our country, true teams rarely exist . . . social barriers and personal ambitions have reduced athletes to dissolute cliques or individuals thrown together for mutual profit . . . Yet these rugby players. with their muddied, cracked bodies, are struggling to hold onto a sense of humanity that we in America have lost and are unlikely to regain. The game may only be to move a ball forward on a dirt field, but the task can be accomplished with an unshackled joy and its memories will be a permanent delight. The women and men who play on that rugby field are more alive than too many of us will ever be. The foolish emptiness we think we perceive in their existence is only our own." - Victor Cahn |
