This was the last meeting of the semester 11/11/02
Committee Reports
Community
Nursing Home- meet Monday November 18, 6 pm at
loading docks for rides. We will be playing games and
providing cookies for the residents. This even will
begin at 6:30pm
HeadStart- Majority voted in favor of moving this
even to next semester
Daffodil Days- will be an event early next
semester, sign-up sheet was circulated for volunteers
to actually deliver the daffodils
Social
This Thursday November 14, is the Turkey Day event
at Mrs. Kockel's house. It will be starting at 7pm.
Bring your appetites. Meet at the loading docks at
6:30pm for a ride
Christmas Party- is December 2, 8 pm at the Iron
Wood Grill. Please bring a canned or boxed good for
the food pantry collection. More informatino about
the cost will be e-mailed later.
Formal-will be next semester if enough people
indicated they were interested on the sign-up sheet. We will be selling blankets in the Co-op store as a
fundraiser for this event. The blankets will say
Indiana University of Pennsylvania Dietetics.
Bowling event- will be planned again for next
semester due to confusion from this semester's
attempt.
Fundraising
A sheet was passed around for interest in a blanket
Sign-up sheet for T-shirts was passed around. They will be available for pick-up after Thanksgiving break at specific times. Cost will be $10 and the
shirts will be maroon with white letters
Sign-up sheet for San Antonio was passed to
determine interest
Aprons and bags will be offered as fundraisers
next semester
NNM
Jill Weaver is now the other committee member in
addition to Leann Klatt, the other member is no longer
attending IUP.
Treasurer
Must Pay your $10 dollar due for active
membership. Bring dues to The Turkey party this
Thursday, or drop it off in the SDA mail box this
week.
Vice president
Asked for volunteers for display case in Ackerman.
Participation is worth 20 points towards active
membership. You will be provided with rescources for
materials. The board will be changed once a month
next semester and we do need it decorated by next week
for this semester.
Remember, you need 100 points for active
membership. However, do to poor communication, points
in each category will not be as crucial this semester
with the exception of the SDA due.
Additional comments/activities
A sign-up sheet was circulated to suggest a local
R.D. or Chef to speak next semester at a meeting.

Open House is this Saturday from 1-4pm in Ackerman
room 110 B to learn more about IUP's Dietetic

October 7, 2002 Meeting
**SDA Minutes from October 7, 2002**
Grocer's Fight Cancer Day is tomorrow at Giant Eagle.
The sign up is currently on the SDA bulletin board in
Ackerman if you are unsure of the time you signed up
for.
The heart walk is this Sunday. A late sign up sheet is
also posted on the SDA bulletin board and the forms
are in the attached pocketed folder.
The latest issue of Nutrition News is hot off the
presses be sure to pick up your copy on the table
under the bulletin board!
As addressed at the meeting. Many individuals still
owe their semester dues of $10.00, please make checks
payable to SDA. Also, many of you had questions about
the SDA point system. Contact any of the officers or
veteran SDA members for clarification.
New phone/email trees are available, again, on the pocket attached to Ackerman bulletin board.

-For the Student Fair we must have our theme submitted by September 16th. The Fair will take place on September 26th from 10:00am to 4:00pm in the HUB�s new OHIO room.
Sign up for the Heart Walk took place and it is scheduled for Sunday October 13th Individuals participating should meet at the Ackerman loading dock at 12:30 pm, the walk begins at 2:00
-Grocers Fight Cancer Day which is held at Giant Eagle, will take place in mid October, Sheena will present us with the details next meeting. Just a note, remember those fat free dip recipes!
-This year we are planning on selling aprons as a new fundraising project. Keep any other ideas in mind; I�m sure we�d all love to hear them.
-Finally, our next meeting is on Monday September 23 at 7:00 pm in the Allenwood. Hope to see you all there!
April 22, 2002 Meeting

Committee News:
Scrapbook photos are needed by Friday April 26th if
you want them to be included in this year's book. You
can give them to Lisa Butterworth anytime!
Newsletter due to the lack of participation this year,
the newsletter next year may display a monthly theme
to motivate us in submission of articles. If you
think of any themes jot them down for next year or
share them at potluck.
Other News:
ADA conference sign ups are due to Dr. Johnson by
Friday April 26th if you plan to attend next years
conference on October 19th through the 22nd
Out with the old in with the New:
New and Old committee heads met to discuss their
duties for next year. If you were not at tonight's
meeting and are a new or old officer see Sheena for
details.
SDA will be sponsoring one more event this year. The
annual Pot Luck dinner will taken place May 1st, 6pm at the Allenwood. Signup sheets are on the SDA bulletin board for food and setup help. Email Gina or Rowan for more details.

April 8, 2002 Meeting
**SDA Minutes from April 8, 2002**
Social event:
Playing pool uptown at Lucky Break on Philly St., Monday April 15 at 7pm. It will be $4 per person.
April 22....Jen and Nicole will be leading us in a dance/step aerobics class from 3:45-4:45 in the HUB.
Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA is this Saturday from 11-4pm. If you've signed up to help, please do your part. If you haven't signed up for a time and would like to help, please see Lori.
Newsletter articles are due for the April/May issue by April 15th.
If you haven't paid your dues yet please do so...SOON! You will not be considered an active member unless you pay $10 to Stephanie before the semester's end.
Our next meeting will be on April 22 @ 7pm. Bring a canned food item to support the Community Nutrition ICCAP Food Drive.
May 1 will be the PotLuck Dinner, 6pm in the Allenwood. A sheet will be passed around at the next meeting to sign up for food items.
April 15 is the big day.....Good luck to all those who applied for internships!!

**Healthy Kids Day is on April 13, from 11-4pm at the YMCA. Contact Lori for more info.
Big Brother/ Big sister are looking for "bigs". Lisa Butterworth volunteers,
and she said it's a lot of fun. Lisa also worked at a weight loss camp for children in New York last summer. They are now hiring. If interested, see her. (Flyer on the SDA bulletin board)
The Special Olypmics organization in Indiana and Armstrong counties is recruiting volunteers to help with this year's games. The games will be held May 1 at IUP. There is a training session this month that will prepare volunteers for the games. If there is anyone interested in help with this great cause, we could get a group together and volunteer our time. See Bree for more details if you are interested.
Workshops and Seminars
**On April 27 there will be the American Diabetes Association 2002 Expo at the ExpoMart in Monroeville from 8am-3pm. Admission is $5. There will be various speakers and demonstrations. See Bree for more details.
**On May 1 there will be a seminar on Eating Disorders sponsored by the Central PA Psychiatric Institute of the Dept. of Psychiarty. This event will take place at The Ramada Inn in Altoona PA and is free of charge. See Bree for more details.

Please consider running for an officer position for next year�s SDA. It may seem like an overwhelming task or responsibility at first, but it is definitely an awarding experience. You are what make up SDA and you are what have made it so successful through your involvement. As an officer, you obtain the ability to be a leader and have this wonderful organization on resumes and applications. Listed below are the offices that are open for next year and a brief description of each. Please contact Lisa Contella if interested in any position so we can put you on the ballot. You can nominate yourself or someone else.
February 4, 2002 Meeting

Feb. 11 Deadline for newsletter articles
Feb. 18 NO MEETING in Ackerman, instead we will be going to Beacon Manor to play games with the residents at 6:30pm. Meet at the loading dock at 6pm. Contact Lori or Lauren for more Information
Feb. 28 The Social Shrek event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 @ 7:00pm. This was the most convenient for Mrs. Kochel. So hopefully by then we will have some ideas for the drink. Watch for further details.
MARCH IS NATION NUTRITION MONTH!!! Check the bulletin board for upcoming events!
March 18 Daffodil days......sign ups will be passed around at next meeting.

January 21, 2002 Meeting
**SDA Minutes: Monday, January 21, 2002**
Welcome back everyone...
We would like to thank the new members for joining us!
*Our next meeting will be on February 4th at 7pm in the Allenwood. Our guest
speaker will be Mrs. Sullivan, a new HRIM professor.
*Sheena is still collecting recipes for the cookbook that was initiated last
semester. The idea was to create a cookbook with low-fat recipes that you
have already tried and are sure work. So please get those to her ASAP.
* You need 100 pts to be considered an active member. You can acquire only 50pts. for meetings, and then 50 pts from a variety of different activities. If you have any questions about the point system, please talk with Sheena or Lisa Contella.
* Dues for the semester are $10.00. Make checks payable to the Student
Dietetic Association. Money is still being collected for the MTO tickets we
sold last semester, so if you haven't turned in your money, please do so
soon.
* We will be participating in the annual Alcohol Free Mix-off, which will be
held on March 19th from 7-9pm. We voted on Shrek as the theme. A get
together will be held relatively soon to come up with the drink. You will
receive an email about when and where as soon as we know. Start thinking of
ideas!!
*Newsletter articles are due by Monday, February 11.
November 26, 2001 Meeting
This was our last meeting of the Fall 2001 semester.
~Recipes are still being received for the cookbook Sheena is putting
together, but there weren't enough to complete a Christmas book. So the
cookbook will be made up next semester. Please continue to give Sheena any
Healthy recipes you may have!
~The SDA Christmas party will be on Monday, December 10 at the Ironwood Grill @ 7pm. If you need a ride, some people will be meeting at the loading dock. If you signed up to bring cookies, please do so. It will be a fun time!
~Donations for the clothing drive will be accepted up until finals week.
~The deadline for the December newsletter is Dec. 12th. Please email any
articles to Christal or Nicole by this date or drop them off in the SDA
mailbox in the office.
~Congratulations to Nikki Wise who was voted for the social position and
Brianna Lindenberg who was voted for peer mentoring!!

November 12, 2001

~Lisa Contella has a new telephone number, see her if you didn�t get it at
the meeting.
~ Recipes are still needed for the holiday cookbook. You can give recipes to Sheena, or drop them off in the SDA mailbox. You get points for this!! Remember to put your name on the recipe.
~ Sweatshirts can be purchased for $15. Pay money to Brianna by Friday, Nov. 16. The design for the shirt is on the SDA Bulletin Board in Ackerman Hall. You get points for this!!
~ Christmas party: December 10 at 7pm, Ironwood Grill. Cost:$3; pay money to Stephanie. Sign-up on SDA Bulletin Board
~ We will be collecting clothing for the Salvation Army. The drop off box will be under the SDA bulletin board in Ackerman. This is a way to get rid of all those unwanted clothes you don't want to pack to take back home at the end of the semester, give them to a worthy cause.
~ Next SDA Meeting: Monday, November 26. 7pm Allenwood. This will be the last meeting of the semester.

ICCAP event:
Will be held this Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9am-noon. We are looking for volunteers to help the elderly with yard work. Contact Lori or Lauren for more info.
Health Fair:
A sign up sheet was passed around for volunteers to help at this event, which will be next Tuesday, Oct 30th in the HUB Multi-purpose room from 9am-3pm. If you didn't have the opportunity to sign up for a time, see Lisa Contella. Our former SDA president, Holly Telenko is in charge of it this year, and she would appreciate our help. If you signed up to hang flyers around campus, please do so ASAP.
Mrs. Kochel's:
On Friday, November 9th, we will be making marshmallow turkeys in honor of Thanksgiving to give to patients at the Indiana Hospital. This has become a yearly event for SDA that is always a lot of fun. There will be good food and fun times, and it will bring a smile to a lot of people! Lori will be giving out directions if needed.
Fundraising:
We will be selling MTO tickets again this year. The coupons are $3.00 a piece and SDA will receive $1.00 from every ticket sold. Each person is asked to sell at least one book of coupons in which you will be given 10 points. If you sell two books, you will be given 20 points.
**Reminder, dues are $10.00. If you haven't paid yet, please do so at the next meeting. You will not be considered active even if you get all necessary points and your dues are not paid. SDA is also selling Dietetics T-Shirts-- See Stephanie or Lisa Butterworth for details.
Christmas cookbook:
Sheena would like to put together a cookbook for the holidays. Between now and the next few meeting try to find some low-fat, nutritious recipes.
Speaker:
We want to thank September Henry from Beacon Manor for joining us! She gave us insight on working in a long-term care facility.
Old Business:
Thanks to everyone who baked goods for the bake sale, or sat at the table. We made $58.00 to donate to the Red Cross. Also thanks to those who volunteered or brought their families to the Relief dinner that was held on Saturday evening.
Next Meeting:
November 12, 2001, which will be in three weeks. Guest speakers will include Dean Zoni and Assoc. Dean Rourke. There will be refreshments served afterwards. All members are asked to bring a canned good.
Don't forget to turn your clocks back Saturday before you go to bed!

*Disaster Relief Dinner: "Windows of Hope"
Chef Brown is looking for volunteers on October 20th
to help raise money for those that lost their jobs and
families when Windows on the World, a famous
restaurant located near the Twin Towers, was destroyed
on September 11, 2001 in New York City. There will be
two settings, one at 6pm and one at 8pm in the
Allenwood. See community for sign up sheets. People
are needed for setup, serving & cleanup. There will be
an Italian cuisine served family style. Keep in mind
that that weekend is also parents' weekend, so even if
you can't volunteer, bring your family to raise money
for a wonderful cause. Reservations can be made, see
Mrs. Kochel.
*Bake Sale:
Oct. 19, 11-4pm and Oct. 20, 11-1pm in the HUB.
We will be baking in the Ackerman foods lab on Oct.
18. Any questions, see Sheena.
*Student Employee Health Fair: October 30
We need volunteers to answer questions and someone
to create a display. Points will be awarded. If you
are interested see Lisa Contella.
*We would like to thank Melissa Fabina for introducing
us to her Yoga instructor, Carol Trimarchi. Ms.
Trimarchi teaches yoga to a variety of people and we
are grateful that she was able to share some of her
techniques with SDA!

September 24, 2001 Meeting

Diabetes Walk: Sunday, Oct. 7th
--We will meet at 10:30am in front of the loading dock
at Ackerman. For more info, contact Lori Nelson or
Lauren Edmiston.
--Thanks to all those who participated in the Heart
Walk. We raised $450.00! We also beat the interns,
which means... Pizza party!
--Tawnya and Shelley will be doing the shoowcase on the
first floor of Ackerman Hall. If has any ideas for the bulletin board in Ackerman, please let Brianna know.

--The Social Activity will be an Ice Creamm Social on
Wednesday, October 4th at 6:00pm in Folger. This is a
wonderful way for us to get to know eachother out of
the classroom and meeting atmosphere!

meetings will begin at 7:00pm in the Allenwood.
Septmeber 10, 2001 Meeting
Welcome back everyone!
--Our first meeting was held in the Allenwwood at 7:30pm. We were all very happy that so many eager dietetics students could join us.
--Each committee stood and introduced ttheemselves and described the duties that they will fulfill in their positions this year.
--Lisa Contella described the point syssteem for the coming year. It will be similar to years past in that you must obtain 100 points to be considered active. There will be plenty of opportunities for members to get these points throughout the year.
--The fundraising committee suggested tthaat we sell MTO tickets again this semester and sell T-shirts or sweatshirts.
--The Article deadline for our October Neewsletter will be Oct. 1, 2001. Please contact Christal Zerman or Nicole Kinter if you have any articles to submit.
--At the meetings end, we all got to ennjooy a cool, yummy treat!
