Below: a typical village near Tuebingen.  Note that the building density that would be considered very high in the U.S. makes possible two very desirable conditions: 1) High quality urban place; 2) a healthy relationship between urban and rural.  Sprawl is about as minimized as possible.  Growth of course is still allowed, but not as unbridled sprawl.  Growth in this case always contributes to the making of quality urban place.
