Chapter ninety
six:
Jenna finished
changing into her pajamas, and brushed her long dark hair back and up into a
high pony-tail for the night.
She glanced at
herself in the mirror one final time to make sure she looked adequate.
Normally, she wouldn’t care, but Luke was down the hall.
Suddenly, she
jumped as she felt two arms slip around her body.
Luke grinned at
her in the mirror, slipping his chin onto her shoulder. “Sorry. I didn’t mean
to scare you.”
“That’s okay.”
She turned in his embrace and wrapped her arms around his neck. “I was just
about to come see you, anyway.”
“Really?” He smiled. “About
what?”
“Just
to see you. And to
see if you would let me sleep in your bed tonight.”
“Yeah?” He leaned forward and kissed her softly.
“I was just going to ask you the same thing.”
Jenna laughed.
“I don’t think we’ll both fit in that little tiny twin bed.”
“Yeah? I’ll make us fit.” He grinned, crossing
the room and flopping into her bed.
She laughed at
him sprawled out across her bed. “Maybe I’ll sleep in Becky’s bed, then.”
“What? No!
There’s plenty of room, look!” He moved aside to show that there was just
barely enough room for her also.
Jen smiled and
turned out the light. In the darkness, Luke scrambled around for a moment,
pulling back the sheets.
She laughed but
slipped into the bed next to him beneath the blankets.
He pulled the
blankets around them both and wrapped his arms tightly around her. Comfortably,
she nestled into his body.
He gently kissed
her forehead. “Good night, love.”
“’Night.”

Becky woke suddenly from a terrible
dream.
She gasped out loud and shot up into a sitting position in bed.
“Becca? Are you okay?” Zac asked groggily,
sitting up next to her.
She didn’t reply, she simply threw her arms
around him, hugging him tightly.
Zac began to feel alarmed, feeling her trembling uncontrollably. “Becca,
what’s wrong?”
He held her at arms length finally, and squinted at her in the dark.
“Did you have a bad dream?”
She nodded quickly. “It was awful!”
“Want to tell me about it?” He gently stroked her hair behind her
shoulder.
She shook her head and whispered “No.”
“Okay…” He searched his mind for something to comfort her. “Want another
hug?”
She leaned forward suddenly and kissed his lips. She wrapped her arms
around his neck and opened her mouth to kiss him more deeply.
Zac raised his eyebrows in alarm, but ceased to protest.
She pushed him onto his back, climbing on top of him, never letting her
lips stray from his. Her tongue sought his, and her kisses became much more insistent.
Zac returned her kisses quickly, and after a moment, rolled her onto her
back, kissing her with the same intensity as she had kissed him.
Her arms folded around his neck tightly, just as he was realizing what
was going on.
“Wait.” He mumbled amongst the kisses. He finally stopped kissing her,
but did not move to put any distance between them. “Becca… maybe we shouldn’t.
Clearly you’re upset because of your dream… I don’t want to push you…” He
looked into her eyes, fighting the urge to kiss her again.
“Zaccy, it’s okay…” She began, but paused. She
didn’t want to start a fight. “Maybe you’re right…”
“Alright.” He moved off her, and sat up on
his own side of the bed.
She slid over to her side of the bed and curled into a ball with her
back towards him.
He felt she looked lonely, and moved to be with her. He wrapped his arms
tightly around her.
“Babe, if you ever want to talk about it, I’m here, okay?”
She nodded and turned over. “Thanks, Zaccy.”
