Chapter eighty
four:
Christy and
Isaac were sitting together watching television.
Becky was
reading a book a few feet away, curled up in a chair with an afghan over her.
“What movie is
this again?” Isaac asked.
“It’s ‘Harry
Potter’.” Christy replied. “I think.
“Oh, okay. Which one?”
“I have no
idea.” Christy laughed. “You can change it if you want, but there’s nothing
else on.”
He smiled and
gently pat her knee. “Okay, I’ll take your word for
it.”
“You guys are so
cute together.” Becky spoke up. “Have you discussed the wedding at all?”
“She hasn’t even
told her parents.” Isaac immediately brought up.
Christy rolled
her eyes at Becky.
“I don’t blame
you. Remember how they acted at Christmas? They were both falling-down drunk.
And your brother grabbed my ass.” Becky shrugged. “If you do invite them, make
sure it isn’t an open bar.”
“See?!” Christy
pointed out. “It’s not a good idea that they come.”
“Alright. I’ll just trust you to make the right
decision. I just think it would be nice to let them know that their daughter is
getting married.”
“Believe me,
they probably wouldn’t even care.”
“I’m sure they
would care. It would be an excuse for them to drink.” Becky replied. “And you
never know, you could always talk to them ahead of
time about controlling their behavior…” Becky shrugged.
Christy narrowed
her eyes at Becky. “Who’s side are you on?”
Becky laughed.
“I’m on neither side. But I’ll be on Isaac’s side if you make us wear hideous
dresses.”
“Deal.” Christy rested her head on her fiancée’s
shoulder.
Zac came into
the room and flopped onto the loveseat, popping the top on a can of dr. pepper.
He groaned. “Ugh, Harry Potter? Come on! I’ve seen
this one!”
“Here,” Christy
tossed the remote at him, “But there’s nothing else on.”
“Nothing is
better than stupid Harry Potter.” Zac grumbled, already flipping through the
channels.
Jenna wandered
down the stairs and through the living room in a daze, not bothering to speak
to anyone, or even awknowlege that she had walked
through a room full of people.
“What’s wrong
with Jen?” Isaac asked.
Christy
shrugged. “I’m not entirely sure. She’s bummed about Luke.”
“Yeah? You should hear from Luke. He’s a mess.
He’s going crazy. I offered to bring him out here, but he’s got to work…” Zac
added.
“Maybe we should
go talk to her?” Becky asked.
“Yeah, I think
we should.” Christy untangled herself from Isaac and followed Becky to the
kitchen.
