Chapter
seventy-one:
Becky had woken
much earlier than usual. She was normally an early riser, but for some reason
she was up an hour and a half earlier than she needed to be.
She slipped into
the shower, and downstairs for a muffin and a cup of tea before Zac’s alarm
even went off.
He barely
mumbled a groggy ‘Good morning’ before stalking off to the shower. Becky dried
her hair and twisted it into one long braid which fell down her back.
She packed a few
things into her purse that she thought she might need throughout the day, and
waited patiently for Zac to get out of the shower by remaking the bed and
tidying the room a little bit.
Zac came out of
the bathroom, fully dressed and ready to go with the exception of his hair
which was still soaking wet and dripping onto his shirt.
“Morning, Babe.”
He kissed her.
“You’re awake
now?” She smiled.
“Yeah, I’m not a
morning person until I get in a hot shower.”
“Ahhh…” Becky laughed. “I’ll remember that.” She sat down on
the edge of the bed. “Ready for the studio today?”
He drew in a
deep breath. “Kind of.”
“Kind
of?”
“Well… I want to
stay and hang out with you a little more… but I guess I should get some work
done too…”
Becky smiled.
“That’s sweet, but we can hang out later. I don’t want to get in the way.”
Zac sat down on
the bed next to her. “You’re not in the way. Songs are about girls, and you’re
a girl, so you could give me inspiration.”
“That is such a
line.” She laughed.
“Alright, maybe
it is…”
“Alright!” Zac shouted back, somewhat facetiously.
“Come on.” Becky
stood and grabbed her purse. “Off to the baby-sitter.”
“Becca.” He grasped her hand tightly. “I know you
hate being stuck with a bodyguard, but it’s for your own safety.”
Becky smiled. “I
know that. And I honestly don’t mind.”
“You don’t?”
“No, it’s only
for a couple of hours, and I get to at least be with my two best friends.”
“I thought I was
your best friend.”
“No, you’re my
boyfriend. I tell those two girls things I don’t tell you.”
“Like what?”
“Like stuff that
you definitely don’t want to know about. Girl stuff.”
“Oh… Well, I’m
glad that you’re okay with this.” He bent and kissed her.
“Yeah, but don’t
let Jen and Christy know that okay? As far as they know, I’m on their side.”
He laughed, and
pulled open the door.

Christy purposely took her time getting ready. She was up and showered before
Isaac was even out of bed, but she intentionally stalled as much as she could.
“Christy, come
on! We’re going to be late! I should have been in the studio half an hour ago!”
He complained.
“Alright,
Alright. I’m ready.”
She opened the bathroom door and strolled out, wearing a pair of fitted jeans
and a white tank top.
“That’s what
you’re wearing?” He asked. The tank top was a little too tight.
“Yeah, do you
have a problem with that?” She asked defensively, planting her hands on her
hips.
He sighed
heavily. He knew she was being difficult on purpose. “Look, I really don’t have
time for this, and neither do you.”
“Fine.” She picked up her purse and paused.
“Wait, maybe I should change these jeans. I forgot that these are the pair that
make my ass look fat.”
“Christy, come
on! This is getting ridiculous. Your pants look fine, and you couldn’t look fat
if someone strapped a 300 pound fat suit on you. There is nothing wrong with
your jeans, your shoes, your hair or your eyelashes, alright? Can we please
just go?” He demanded furiously.
She took a step
back ready to challenge him, but instead shrugged her shoulders and walked past
him. “Okay, I’m ready.”
She walked ahead
of him through the hall and knocked on Jen’s door as he attempted to lock
theirs.
Christy stepped
inside and closed the door without even saying goodbye.
Isaac rolled his
eyes. He’d pay for that outburst later, but in the meantime, he had to get to
the studio.
