Chapter
sixty-seven:
Christy was standing
in the room she was sharing with Isaac on the top floor of a hotel. After
spending countless hours being interviewed by police, the chief had advised
them to stay at a hotel for a couple of days while evidence was taken and
repairs were made. They had packed only the necessities and found a hotel with
vacancies to take them. The hotel wasn’t the most posh one in town, but it was
comfortable, and most importantly had a bed and a bathroom.
She heaved a
heavy sigh, looking out over the lights of the city.
Although she
tried to hide it, she was terrified.
Whoever it was
coming after them had literally been in their house.
Whoever was
after them was much more than an obsessed teenie-bopper-fan.
She looked away
from the window and found herself alone in the small hotel room. A feeling of
panic washed over her, until she heard the sink in the bathroom running.
Christy quickly
crossed the room and entered the washroom.
Isaac was busy
brushing his teeth, but kept a careful eye on her, but she simply sunk against
the wall with her arms wrapped around herself simply wanting to be near the man
she loved.
At last, he
turned off the tap and wiped the excess toothpaste from his mouth with a hotel
towel and turned to face her. “Are you okay, C?”
She nodded, but
still looked upset. She wrapped her arms around his body and buried her tears
in his shoulder.
“It’s okay, C.” He whispered. “I know you’re scared. I’m
scared too.”
“You are?” She
asked, her voice trembling.
“Yeah, but I’m
going to protect you the best I can. I love you more than anything, and I’m
going to keep you safe.” He held her tighter with a slight pause. “And next
time, I’m going to trust you, and listen to you when you say you’re afraid.”
Christy nodded
and clutched his t-shirt tightly, sniffling back tears.
“Come on, let’s
get into bed and try and get some sleep, okay?”
“I don’t think I
can sleep.” She said, reluctantly pulling away.
He kept his
hands placed firmly on her hips. “I know, me neither.
But we can at least try, okay?”
“Okay.” She took
the hand he offered her and followed Isaac into the bedroom.
He turned off
the lamp on the nightstand and they both slipped into the bed on opposite sides
and met in the middle under the blankets.
She curled up
into his side, resting her head on his chest.
“C?” He asked,
gently stroking her bare shoulder.
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
“I love you.”
She replied with a small smile.

Becky sat in
front of the small vanity in the room she was sharing with Zac.
She pulled a
brush through her hair and pulled her long blonde locks into a high pony tail.
She had been offered the chance to choose if she wanted to share a room with
Zac or Jenna, but Jenna insisted she was fine and she knew that Becky would
prefer to be with Zac.
Zac had left briefly in search of an extra
blanket for the bed, and she insisted she would be fine when left alone for a
few minutes. However, now she was worried, even though he had locked the door
behind him.
Becky put the
brush down and examined her reflection with a heavy sigh.
She had never
been more scared in her entire life. The same people who had attacked her three
years ago had come back for more, and that terrified her.
It frightened her that they knew where she lived and it frightened her that
they were no longer just threatening to hurt them, now they were threatening to
kill them.
Becky got up
from the bench at the vanity and crossed the room, climbing into bed.
She heard the
beep of the key-card in the door. The door opened and Zac appeared. “Becca?”
“Hi.” She said.
“Hi.” He replied
with a small smile. He tucked the extra blanket under his arm and locked the
door, sliding the extra bolts and the chain across.
Zac crossed the
room and unfolded the blanket, spreading it across the bed with Becky’s help.
“You set to try
and get some rest?” He asked.
“I’m gong to
try.”
He gently kissed
her forehead. “Me too.”
As he crossed
the room, Becky laid down in the bed, curling into a ball with her back facing
his side of the bed.
Zac turned off
the light and climbed under the blankets, sliding his body over towards
hers. He curled his body around hers and
held her tightly. “God, Becca, you’re shaking!”
She turned over
in his arms unable to suppress tears any longer. “I’m scared!”
“It’s okay,
babe.” He gently brushed aside her tears. “I promise,
I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
“I know, but
what about all of the times when you’re not around? Like when you’re in the
studio or on stage, or doing an interview or something?”
Zac didn’t know
the answer to that question. Finally he said “I’ll make sure you’re safe,
okay?”
