Chapter
sixty-two:
Isaac was
sitting at the small island in the kitchen on a stool.
Christy had asked him to help prepare dinner, and he had offered to help
willingly.
She had been
taking lessons with his mother over the past six months, and her cooking was
improving, although much of the time, he didn’t see the point of going through
the trouble.
However, this
time he didn’t argue, he just sat down at the kitchen island, breaking the ends
off the green beans and dropping the ends into a bag and the middle into a pot.
She had also asked him to barbeque steak, which he agreed to do later when
everyone arrived.
Christy stood at
the sink, peeling potatoes, while absently looking out the window into the
backyard which bordered on a small lake.
Isaac yawned
tiredly, and finished the last of the beans. He tossed the bag full of ends
into the garbage and wrapped his arms around his fiancé.
“I’m bored.” He
said, resting his chin on Christy’s shoulder.
“You are? Well,
there are still carrots to peel.” She laughed.
“Well, we could
do that… or maybe there’s something else we could do before the girls get here…
you know, maybe three or four times…”
Christy laughed. “Again? Have I turned you into a
sex-crazed maniac?”
He shrugged. “I
think we’re both to blame. You know, part of it is a natural evolution of my
personality, part of it is how amazing you are, and the other part is the fact
that I want to be with my incredibly hot fiancée…”
Christy laughed and turned around, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Yeah? I think you just talked me into it…”
“Yeah?” He grinned, leaning to kiss her.
“Yeah,” She
smiled, and met his kiss.
The front door
banged open. “Hello!” Zac yelled into the house. “We’re here!” He dropped a
suitcase and it echoed through the house.
“Damn it.” Isaac
mumbled.
“Later?” Christy
asked, biting her lower lip.
He grinned. “Definitely. Come on!” He grasped her hand and led her into
the hall.
“Hey! How was prom?”
Isaac asked.
“It was amazing!
It was so much fun!” Becky smiled. “We took tons of pictures, I can show you…
when I remember where I put them…”
Jenna silently
came into the house and dropped her bag wordlessly.
“Well, we have
some news…” Isaac began, glancing at Christy with a smile.
“You’re
pregnant?” Becky asked immediately.
“No.” Christy
said, then responded again for Isaac’s benefit, seeing
the slightly alarmed look on his face. “Definitely not
pregnant.”
Instead, she held up her left hand, showing off a glinting diamond engagement
ring.
All three girls
erupted in screams and embraced each other all at once.
Instinctively,
Zac covered his ears with his hands.
Isaac laughed,
and embraced Becky and Jen separately, when they finished with Christy.
“Oh my god,
that’s huge!” Becky gasped, admiring the ring on Christy’s finger.
“Jesus, that
thing could feed a small third-world country for a month!” Jenna agreed.
“I
know, it’s beautiful!”
Christy gushed excitedly.
“So, how did it
happen? How did he propose?” Becky asked, following Christy into the kitchen
with Jenna.
Zac tossed his
hands into the air. “Don’t worry, I’ll get the luggage!” He called after the
girls.
Isaac laughed.
“Come on, I’ll help you bring everything in.”
