Chapter sixty:
Christy was sitting in the living room reading the latest issue of Cosmo.
Isaac came into the room with a mug of coffee in his hand. “So…” He smiled down
at her.
“So?” She looked
up with a grin.
He sat next to
her and placed his free hand on her knee. “I just got off the phone with my
parents. I told them the news and they were ecstatic!”
“My mom wants to
plan the wedding, and she’s calling to reserve a church and get prices.”
Christy smiled. “Yeah? That sounds wonderful.”
“Is that okay?”
“That’s
perfect.” Christy put aside her magazine and wrapped her arms around his body,
resting her head on his shoulder.
“I know you’re
not religious or anything…”
“No, I’d like to
do something traditional for once in my life.”
”Yeah?” His arm circled her shoulders.
“Yeah… Like get
married, pop out the babies and be your perfect little housewife.”
“You don’t have
to do all that stuff for me…” He rested his cheek against the top of her head.
“I know. But I
want to.”
“Okay. Why don’t
we call your parents and tell them the news?”
“Do we have to?”
She sat up suddenly.
“They’re your
parents… they should know that their daughter is getting married… They’ll want
to come to the wedding.”
Christy gasped. “Oh no! They’ll want to come to the wedding!”
Isaac laughed. “You’re acting like that’s a bad thing.”
“It’s a horrible
thing! What if my step mom gets drunk and passes out in the bathroom? What if
my dad insists we serve road-kill as a main course? What if my step brother
hits on your sister?”
“Well, we’ll
address that when we come to it, okay?”
Christy laughed.
“Come on, take me for a walk outside, hmm? We can
wander the trails a little.”
He smiled.
“Sure.”

Luke found
himself sitting in the chair in Jen’s bedroom. Jenna was sitting across the
room from him, seated on the edge of the bed, but she was looking away from him
out the window, still clearly very angry.
Luke drew in a
deep breath and exhaled irritably. “Alright, that’s it.” He pushed himself up
out of the chair and crossed the room.
“What do I have to do to end this fight, hmm? You want to make out? You want to
have sex, fine.” He crossed the room in a few short strides and moved to kiss
her.
Jenna pushed him
away with surprising strength and crossed the room. “You don’t get it do you?”
”What? What don’t I get? Huh? Because I don’t get this whole fucking argument!”
”I’m your god-damned girlfriend and we have two fucking days together and you
won’t even touch me! How are we supposed to be together? It’s hard enough being
in this relationship when we’re miles and miles apart, but having to push you
into taking this relationship to the next level is bullshit! Why don’t you just
end it, Luke? Just tell me that you don’t want to be with me!”
Luke felt his anger dissolve. He sighed and sat down on the end of the bed.
“Look, I want to be with you more than anything. I just… I don’t know. This is
the first real relationship I’ve ever been in. And I am absolutely crazy about
you. One-hundred percent, over the top, crazy about you… and that drives me
crazy. Its not that I don’t want to do these things with you… I just worry that
things are going to fast because we’re always away from each other for so long.
I guess I just over think things, you know?”
Jenna smiled slightly. “Come here.”
He stood and put
his arms around her.
”Close your eyes.” She instructed.
He raised his
eyebrows, but at the risk of beginning another fight, he did so.
“Now take a deep
breath, and relax.”
He took a deep
breath.
“Relax your
shoulders.” She placed her hands on his shoulders.
“Clear your mind… don’t think…” She paused. “Is it clear?”
“I think so…”
“Don’t think!”
She smiled. “Just relax.”
Finally he said.
“Okay.”
“You’re relaxed?
You’re not thinking?”
“No.”
“Good, now kiss
me.”
