Chapter fifty six:
”Jen?”
Jenna slowly lifted her head from Luke’s chest. She had been dancing with Luke at her prom, tightly wound in his arms, through a string of slow songs played by the DJ. The music sucked, but she had long since stopped caring.

Luke smiled down at her. “It’s almost midnight.”

Jenna sighed heavily and nestled herself back into his arms. “So? Is this just a Cinderella deal? Are you going to disappear at midnight?”

Luke laughed. “No, but the dance is over at midnight. Zac and Becky probably aren’t going to wait around for us.”
Jenna drew in a deep breath. “Okay, let’s go.”
Luke laughed, tightening his embrace on her when she didn’t move. “We can at least finish this song.”

“Okay.”

She nestled into his arms. “Can I tell you a secret?”

“Always.” He smiled.

“I was dreading this night, thinking it was going to be a bunch of spoiled rich preppy kids showing off… but now I don’t want it to end.”

Luke smiled and gently kissed her forehead. “I know. I don’t want it to end either.”

Jenna looked up at him. “You don’t mind being surrounded by people you don’t know?”

“I honestly don’t care.” He added.

The song ended and a faster one came on, and people began to move apart and move to the faster music.

Jen finally pulled away from him, although he was unwilling to let her. “Let’s go find Becky and Zac.”

“Sure.” He took her hand and followed her through the crowds of people, most of which were already beginning to leave.
Jen!” Someone called from the crowd, and Jenna stopped to look around.
Finally, someone came bursting out of the mass of people and in a mass of skirts embraced Jenna tightly.

Luke let go of her hand, but stayed within reaching distance of her protectively, incase she got lost in the crowd.

Brittany!” Jenna cried. “How are you?”

“I’m good, how are you!” The girl released Jenna and finally noticed Luke.

Luke smiled and extended a hand. “I’m Luke Benson.”

“You’re Luke?! The infamous Luke that Jen always talks about? The one she is crazy over?” Brittany asked in surprise.

Luke’s smile turned into a wide grin, and Jenna blushed slightly.

“Wow,” Brittany said directly to Jen. “He’s even cuter in person!”

Luke felt himself blush at that. “Err… thank you.”

“Maybe we should go, Luke.” Jenna said, a little too eagerly.

“Yeah, I should find my date, if he isn’t passed out somewhere.” Brittany rolled her eyes.

“Have you seen Becky?” Jenna asked.

“No, I haven’t… Is she here? With her rock star boyfriend?”

“Somewhere around here.” Jenna nodded.

“Awesome. I’ll let you go. Call me later!” Brittany disappeared into the mass of people again.

Jenna looked up at Luke apologetically and pursed her lips.

Luke laughed out loud and wrapped his arms around her in a firm embrace.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Becky and Zac were sitting together next to her locker. They had both wanted to get away from the crowded gym and be alone for a few moments.

Becky had curled up next to him, resting her head on his shoulder.

“Zaccy, I’m so glad you came.”

“I’m glad I came too. But you know; I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”

Becky smiled. “Thank you for coming.”

“No problem, Becca.”

They sat in silence for a few moments. “Oh, I forgot!” She jumped up and unlocked her locker, and began taking down photo’s, passing them to Zac. They were photos of them together, over the past two years. Zac couldn’t help but smile at the photo of them together, with Becky clutching the oversized bear he had spent a hundred bucks on at the fair.

Becky dropped the lock into her purse and dropped to her knees on the floor next to Zac.

“That’s cute. You’ve got pictures of us up in your locker?”

Becky nodded. “Yeah, I do. It’s not easy being away from you for so long…”

“I know.” He draped an arm around her shoulders. “I know it’s hard. But we’re together now, so let’s not dwell on how hard the past was, and let’s just focus on how great the future will be.”

Becky grinned broadly. “That is the sweetest thing I have ever heard in my entire life!” She placed a kiss on his lips.

Zac grinned back at her. “How about we go find Luke and Jen?”

“Yeah, I think we should.” She glanced at the clock on the wall. “It’s after midnight.”

“Ok, come on.” He got to his feet and helped her up.
