Chapter thirty-seven:
Becky
was sitting at the table in the hotel room she shared with Jenna.
Becky
had been up first and showered before Jen was even awake, and therefore had
taken it upon herself to make tea while Jen showered.
The
door opened and Zac came in, smiling. “Hey, glad you’re awake. Are you almost
ready?”
“I’m
pretty much ready, but Jen isn’t. She went downstairs for a coffee… like an
hour ago.”
”Alright.” He kissed her cheek and sat down next to her at the table.
“Zac? Did you and Taylor really mean all that stuff about hiring
extra security?” She asked cautiously.
”Yeah.” He nodded. “I think it’s for the best.”
“But
it’s going to suck! I mean, we’re going to be stuck together all the time and
we won’t be able to go anywhere or do anything…”
“I
know.” Zac said, sitting down across from her. “I’m not happy about it either.
It means I won’t be able to take you anywhere, like to the movies or to the
arcade or anything…”
Becky
sighed heavily and dropped her head into her hands. “I shouldn’t have told
you.”
“No,
Becca…” He reached over and rested a warm palm between her shoulder blades. “I’m
glad you did. I wish you had told me sooner though…” He paused. “Didn’t those
letters bother you?”
”Yeah, they did. They scared the hell out of me… I just… I thought maybe it was
a practical joke, you know?”
“Becky,
those are harsh threats! I mean, someone is threatening you with bodily harm!”
“I
know that Zac, but…” She paused. “Are you saying there isn’t the slightest
possibility that these people are joking? You don’t think that maybe it’s just
some little twelve year old that seriously needs a
life?”
Zac
exhaled slowly. “I know. You’re probably right, but we really can’t take that
chance. If someone ever followed through on one of those threats… I’d feel
responsible. I’d feel like I didn’t do everything I could…”
Becky
sighed. “That sucks.”

Christy
practically skipped off the elevator and made her way into the front lobby,
whistling the entire distance. She stopped at the small Starbucks tucked into
the corner across from the reception desk. She order
herself a coffee and continued to whistle as the barista handed it to her.
Christy noticed Jenna sitting in a plush armchair with her feet propped up on a
window sill and a book open on her lap.
Christy
plopped down across from Jenna. “Hey, how are you today?” Christy chirped
cheerfully.
Jenna
looked up with raised eyebrows. “Why are you so… You
had sex didn’t you?”
“Yeah.” Christy smiled. “Yeah, I did. And I just can’t
stop smiling!”
“No
kidding. You look like you’ve been drinking.” Jen rolled her eyes and turned
her attention back to her book.
“I
know. And I don’t care. God, everything was so… amazing last night. It was so…
oh god, I get chills just thinking about it.”
“Okay,
that was just a little bit too much information.” Jenna rolled her eyes. “So
how did you talk him into it?”
“Actually,
it was his idea. He took me out for a really romantic dinner, then he just asked if we could have sex. It was so sweet!
You know… I think… I think he may be the one… I never imagined a long term
relationship with anyone before…but Isaac…” She sighed dreamily.
”So, you know that the tour ends in a month?”
Christy’s
smile faded. “It does? I thought it continued…”
“It
does, they’re going overseas; to
“Oh, oh yeah. I knew that.” Christy shrugged. She glanced up
at the clock on the wall. “I uh… should go, I bet
Isaac is out of the shower now.” Christy got up and made her way back into the
elevator. She paused, leaning against the wall of the car.
Her
first love was about to turn into her first heartbreak.
