Chapter thirty four:

Christy met Isaac with a kiss the next morning in the front of the bus. She was fresh from the shower, and had pulled her hair into a long braid.

“Hey.” Isaac smiled and poured her a mug of coffee. “What are your plans for tonight?”

“Umm… nothing. Isn’t there a concert tonight?”

“No. A couple of phone interviews this afternoon, that’s all.” He shrugged. “But I made plans for us if you’re willing…” He cleared his throat almost nervously.

“Really? What kind of plans?” She leaned against the tiny counter.

“Just… a date. Something special.” He smiled. “You’ll see.”

She grinned. “Alright.”

“We’ll be arriving at the hotel around noon, will six o’clock reservations give you enough time to buy something dressy?”

“Dressy?” Christy planted her hands on her hips. “What exactly are you planning?”

He grinned. “You’ll see. I’ll come by your room around 5:30?”

“Okay.” She giggled.

Becky and Jenna were sitting in the front of the bus boredly. Jenna was checking her email on Becky’s laptop and sighed heavily.

“Look at this.” She turned the computer so Becky could see.
Becky squinted slightly.

“Eleven emails from those crazy people…”

“What do they say?” Becky asked curiously.

“The same thing… leave the tour… I don’t get it! I mean, a little prank is one thing, but who is pathetic enough to keep doing it?”

“Are you going to read them or reply or what?”

“I’m just going to delete them.” Jenna sighed. “There’s no point in bothering with them at all.”

Becky nodded. “I know… I’m afraid to check my email. Maybe I’ll change it.”
”Good idea.”

Neither spoke for a moment.

“Are you sad that Luke is leaving?”
Jenna hesitated. “Yeah. I mean, I didn’t think it would bother me, I’ve only known him for a week but he’s so… perfect in every way… Am I completely pathetic or what? I mean, this kind of instant connection doesn’t happen in real life…”

“Maybe it does.” Becky shrugged. “Maybe you needed to meet the right one.”

“But a week ago, I didn’t even believe there was a right one out there, and now… I don’t know. I like him a lot, I just don’t want to get hurt. I’m worried.”
”I don’t think you have anything to worry about. He’s so sweet.”

“I know… that’s what I’m afraid of.”

Taylor wandered into the front of the bus and opened the mini-fridge, removing a can of dr. pepper. “Hey girls, what are you guys talking about?”

Jenna quickly closed the laptop so he couldn’t see the emails. “Nothing.” Jenna said.

“Just chatting about girl stuff.” Becky added.

Taylor raised his eyebrows. “Okay, sure. You know, Luke and Zac are getting pretty fierce back there playing video games… why don’t you intervene? Then I can play.”

Jenna and Becky exchanged looks then burst out giggling.

Becky was sitting as quietly as possible listening to Zac give a phone interview.
Taylor was waiting next in line and flipping through a magazine boredly.
Becky didn’t want to be a distraction, but she wanted to hear the interview. She was going to sneak in, but Zac insisted she wouldn’t be a distraction.
Zac made another face at her, crossing his eyes and sticking out his tongue.

She burst into giggles and quickly covered her mouth with both hands as Taylor looked up with raised eyebrows.

Zac smirked at her, and she narrowed her eyes in pretend frustration.

Finally, after what seemed like ages, Zac was finished and handed the phone to Taylor.

Becky and Zac slipped from the room and closed the door behind them.

Becky smiled. “You said I wouldn’t be a distraction.”

“You weren’t distracting me.” He laughed. “I was distracting myself.”

Becky giggled at that. “Okay, so what’s on the agenda tonight?”

“Tonight? Well…” He draped an arm around her shoulders, “Well, I thought we could go to the store across the road, get a whole pile of junk food and then rent a bunch of movies on pay-per-view…”

Becky smiled. “That would be awesome!”

He shrugged. “Well… I don’t get every night off, right?”

“You barely get any nights off.” She teased.

“I know…” He sighed.
”That’s ok. I get to go to like 30 Hanson concerts in one summer.”

He laughed harder.

Jenna had gone with Luke to the airport so he could fly home. She hadn’t wanted him to leave, but she had gone with him to spend as much time with him as possible.
He waited to the very last second to kiss her goodbye and promised to call when he got into
Tulsa to assure you he had arrived safely.
After she had watched his plane take off, she sat down in the middle of the terminal and watched the people walk past.

She knew that moving too quickly with Luke wasn’t good, but they fit together perfectly. He was charming and sweet and kind. She was completely getting a crush on him, and she knew it wasn’t a good idea to fall for someone so quickly.
She placed her feet on the chair and tucked her knees beneath her chin.
She watched people hurry past on their way to various gates.

Her cell phone rang in her pocket and she dug it out quickly, hoping it was Luke.
She recognized Becky’s number right away and pressed the talk button.

“Hello?”

Hey,Jen.”

“Hey. What’s going on?”

“Not much. I was just wondering where you were. Did Luke get his flight?”

“Yeah, he just left…”
”Are you on your way home?”

“Yeah, I am. I’m just going to get a cab.”

“Alright. I was just worried about you. See you soon, okay?”

“Yeah, bye.”
