Chapter
twenty nine:
Jenna
was walking with Luke through a park. He held her hand tightly in his, playing
gently with her fingers.
They
had spent the day doing general things, like seeing a movie and going for long
walks, and stopping at a coffee shop and staying to listen to a woman read her
poetry, which Jenna had been intrigued by. He smiled down at her in the falling
darkness.
”It’s getting late. Should I walk you back now?”
“No.”
She said. “I want to stay a little longer… if you want.”
His
smile broadened. “I definitely want to.”
“I
can’t believe we’re just getting to know each other and I leave tonight.” She
mused.
“I
know. But it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. If you didn’t go, you’d regret
it.”
She
nodded. “I know. But this can still work, right? I mean… you and me.”
“I
think so. I’ve never been in a really serious relationship, let a lone a long
distance one… but I’m sure if we try it can work. I like you.”
“I
like you too.” She smiled.
Her
cell phone alarm went off in her pocket, and she fished into her jeans to
remove it. “Damn,” She cursed.
“Time to go back?”
She
nodded.
“Okay
let’s walk back?”
“We
don’t have to…”
He
smiled and bent to softly kiss her lips.

Isaac
walked offstage to the roar of the audience and the myriad of applause from the
crowd.
He couldn’t hide a smile from his face. There was absolutely nothing better
than getting onstage to a sold-out show when the fans were absolutely into
every second of the performance.
Zac
followed him off the stage, wiping the sweat from his face on a towel.
“Oh
man!”
Christy
appeared holding three bottles of ice-cold water, handing one to each of them.
Isaac
smiled and thanked her.
“So?
What did you think?” He asked.
“I
think all three of you are sweaty, and you stink.”
Zac
laughed. “No kidding we’re sweaty. But the smell is one hundred percent
Taylor.”
“What?
No way!”
“Well,
you do stink! And you sweat more than me and Ike put together!” Zac shoved him.
“No way! I call it!” Zac said, running off down the
corridor, with
“So?
What did you really think?” Isaac asked, untwisting the cap of his bottle of
water and taking a sip.
“I
think you were amazing out there. You guys rock live. The energy and the
passion you have for your music is remarkable.” She said, smiling at him.
“Thanks.”
“And
you’re incredibly sexy out there.” She reached up and kissed his lips.
“Wow,
I think that’s the best comment I’ve ever gotten.” He grinned.
“You
bet.” She laughed. “Come on. You should try and fight your brothers for the
shower.”
“Really? Am I that bad?”
“You’re
not as bad as
He
laughed. “Okay. Good plan.”

Becky was standing in the bus, pacing back in forth in the front lounge
thinking about the letter she held in her hand.
She
wanted to tell Zac about it, but it was probably just a joke. It was probably
some freak playing games with her.
She
sighed heavily. And looked down at the envelope.
The
door to the bus opened and Zac came up the stairs. “Jeeze, there are a lot of
girls here!”
Becky
quickly stuffed the letter in the back pocket of her jeans.
“There
you are.” He smiled. “Did you see the show?”
“I
did. You were great.” She smiled.
He
grinned back at her and bent to kiss her cheek.
He
walked past her and dug a pair of clean clothes from his suitcase. “Any word from Jen and Luke?”
“Umm… yeah. They are on their way.”
“So
things are working out, huh?”
“Yeah, so far.” Becky quickly pulled the letter from her pocket
and shoved it into the garbage can.
“I’m
a great matchmaker, huh?”
Becky
laughed. “You did have some help, you know.”
“I
know. I’m teasing.” He smiled. “I’m going to jump in the shower, kay, babe?”
“Good
idea, Zac.”
Zac
laughed. “Jeeze, do I stink that bad?”
“No
offense, but you do.” Becky made a face.
He
laughed. “Yeah? You should smell
