Chapter two hundred and seventy six
Christy followed Isaac out the front door of the hotel room. She
had asked him if they could spend their last night in the hotel room alone
together. This required a jog across the street to the video store. She stopped
behind Isaac, bumping into him as he paused to wait for a car to pass. His hand
tightened around hers as he pulled her along during the break in traffic, he
pulled her along close behind him as he jogged across the street. Christy
followed, struggling to keep up with his stride. She folded her free arm over
her stomach protectively.
Once safely on the other side, he stopped and turned to her.
“Are you okay, honey?” He asked, gently placing a hand on the arm
that was over her stomach.
“I’m fine.” She smiled.
Unsatisfied with this answer, but not willing to push her
response, he gently wrapped his arm around her and led her toward the
convenience store.
Christy followed quietly, letting him lead her. He opened the door
and ushered her through.
“I’m fine, baby.” She smiled at him once inside the store. “Stop
treating me like a kid.”
He laughed and held up his hands in defense. “Fine, I’ll back
off.”
“Good.” She playfully pushed him away.
Still laughing, he wandered off toward the videos, while Christy headed
towards the junk food. She selected a bag of cheetos
with extra cheese and a bag of red licorice ropes.
Tucking both beneath her arm, she wandered slowly amongst the food
aisles and selected a tube of original Pringles.
She found Isaac standing amidst the videos, reading the back of a DVD
case. His brow was furrowed. He looked up when he heard Christy coming, and
smiled. He put the video back on the shelf and reached for her. Grasping both
sides of her dress, he pulled her closer, kissing her lips.
She refused to let go of her food and hugged it tightly to her
chest.
“Have you picked a movie?” She asked.
“No, I was waiting for you.” He grinned.
“I don’t care what we rent. I’ve got what I came for.”
He laughed.

“I should talk to her,” Becky said, standing from the stool at the
island in the kitchen.
“Becca, maybe you should give her a minute to calm down, you
know?” Zac offered, attempting to towel dry his hair with a beach towel. He was
still wearing his swim trunks, which were knotted loosely around his hips.
Becky nodded. “I think you’re right… I should let her cool down.”
“Hey, I just passed Luke on the way in, he looked pretty pissed-“
Becky glanced at Zac then back to
“Again?”
“Well, he’s… He’s on his way to the airport,
he’s going back to
“Oh…”
“Will you talk to her?” Becky asked. “She’ll listen to you. They’re
making a mistake, and they’ll both regret it.”
“No, I think I should stay out of it.”
He sighed and rolled his eyes. “Alright, I’ll go.”
