Chapter two
hundred and seventy-four:
Isaac was lying
on the sofa in their posh room at the inn. Whilst looking for something to
quench his thirst, he had found a beer in the complimentary minifridge.
Christy was putting around the room, sorting through the days purchases and
removing tags from items of clothing, he sat down to watch a biography on the
creator of star wars. He was only half interested, and no matter how hard he
tried to focus on the television screen, his eyes still drifted partially
closed.
He felt Christy
climb over his feet and crawl up his body just as his eyes opened again to ward
off the overwhelming urge to sleep.
“Sorry.” She
said softly. “I didn’t want to wake you. I just wanted to nap too.”
“It’s okay.” He
smiled and sat forward enough to meet her as she moved on top of him. He kissed
her lips, moving his mouth against hers and urging her closer to him.
Their kisses
broke, and she nestled into the tiny nook in between the back of the sofa and
his right side.
“Honey, I hate
to tell you this, but you taste like beer… and just the smell of it turns my
stomach.”
“Sorry, C.” He
half smiled. “I’ll stop drinking it, okay?” He placed his beer on the coffee
table.
“You don’t have
to do that… just don’t kiss me while you drink your beer.”
This brought a
full smile to his lips, and he chuckled softly as he wrapped his arms around
her body.
They were both
silent for several moments.
“Baby?” Christy asked, after pressing her ear to
his chest to listen to the steady thump of his chest.
“Yeah,
C?” He asked, gently
brushing a stray lock of hair behind her shoulder.
“Can you promise
me something?” She asked coyly.
“Sure, C.” He
smiled, gently kissing the top of her head.
“Can you promise
not to go away like that again?”
He drew in a
deep breath, “I… I don’t know if I can promise that… I can promise that I’ll
try…”
“I know.” She
pursed her lips tightly, unable to hide the hint of sadness in her voice. “I
just missed you.”
“I missed you
too.” He smiled, hugging her closer.
“Does this mean
we can stay another couple of days?”
“I’d love to,
but-“ He began.
“I know, I’m just being a pain in the ass.” She smiled and slipped
her hand into his.

Becky crossed
the kitchen and stood next to Zac, dipping her hand into his bag of M&M’s.
Zac grinned. “So
did you fix everything?”
Becky laughed.
“What makes you think I fixed things?”
“You always do.”
He draped an arm around her shoulders.
“I don’t think I
fixed anything. I think they’re going to have to work this one out themselves.”
“So what was the
big fight about?” He asked curiously.
Becky smiled at
him. “I can’t tell you that. It’s their business, not ours.”
He pouted. “Aww… come on! Who am I going to tell?”
Becky laughed at
him, leaned forward and kissed his cheek. “You know that doesn’t work on me….
I’m going for a swim. Want to come with?” She walked backward towards the patio
doors.
“Are we swimming
naked?” He asked excitedly, hopping down from the counter.
She lifted up
her shirt quickly to flash him a peak of her new striped bikini top.
Zac laughed, and
followed her out the door.
