Chapter two
hundred and seventy-two:
Luke had chosen
a random chair in the formal living room to sit and read his book. Admittedly,
he found himself watching out the window and waiting for Jenna’s return.
He knew
Every noise he
heard made him jump, and look to the window to see if
Jimmy came into
the sitting room and handed Luke a can of coke. “Relax. I’m sure she’s fine,
and you know that girl is tough. She can take care of herself if she needs to.”
This comment
brought a slight smile to Luke’s lips. “I know… I just hate that we were
fighting and she left out of anger, you know?”
“I know. I’ve
been there before.” Jimmy clapped his hand over Luke’s shoulder. “Don’t worry
about her. You’ll work it out.”
The front door
opened, and Luke was on his feet in a split second. He dropped his book to the
floor, forgetting it completely.
He ran across
the sitting room and was in the entry hall in seconds.
He discovered
only Zac and Becky as they both carried in arm loads of shopping bags and tried
to kick off their shoes. They were both laughing.
Becky stopped
laughing when she noticed Luke and the concerned expression on his face. “Still no Jen?”
Luke shook his
head in response.
“I should call
her.” Becky said, and realizing her hands were full, could not reach her phone
from her purse.
“Let me help.”
Jimmy offered, taking her bags. “Want these in your room?”
“Thanks, but you
could just leave them here-“ She tried.
“It’s okay, I’ve
got it.” Jimmy followed Zac up the stairs with the bags.
Luke sighed
heavily and leaned against the wall. “She’s with
“Probably?” Becky asked. “You don’t trust her?”
“I don’t trust
him.” He crossed his arms over his chest.
Becky smiled and
gave him a loose hug. “It’s okay. Jen loves you.”
The front door
opened again and Jenna came in, followed by
Jen stopped and
sighed heavily. “Talking about me?”
“Jen-“ Luke began, but she picked up her step and moved toward
the stairs.
“I’ll talk to her.”
Becky assured Luke and followed quickly behind.
“I know.” Luke
seethed, and walked toward the kitchen.

Jenna closed the
door to the bedroom she shared with Luke a little harder than she meant to. The
door had slammed angrily. She wasn’t angry, she wasn’t sure how she was
feeling.
She sighed and
dropped her purse on the floor, sprawling out across the bed.
As soon as her
body hit the mattress, there was a knock at the door.
“Go away!” She
replied, not caring who it was. She didn’t want to talk to anyone.
The door opened
anyway, and Becky came into the room. She closed the door behind her.
“You don’t even
want to talk to me?” She asked.
Jen sat up, “No.
I think you’re about the only one I’d like to talk to right now.”
“Okay, so then
do you want to tell me what happened?”
“No.” Jen
replied, then flustered said, “Yes… I don’t know.”
Becky crossed
the room and sat cross-legged on the bed. “Okay, then start from the beginning.
Why are you and Luke fighting?”
“It’s nothing…
it’s just…” Jen drew in a deep breath. “Luke and I want different things right
now. That’s all it is. I love him, but…”
“But…” Becky
tried, searching for more explanation.
“I just don’t
know if he loves me.”
“Jen, he’s crazy
about you! You know that!”
“I know… but…”
Jen stopped and considered her words carefully. “Okay, when you and Zac decided
to have sex, did you talk about it first?”
“Kind of…” Becky
shook her head. “We both decided we were ready, and it just happened.”
“See!? That’s
what I thought would happen with Luke and I. I thought we were in the right
place in our relationship, and every time I try to go further, he stops it. I
mean, he kisses me and then just when I think he wants to…” Jen trailed off.
“It’s okay, go
on.” Becky urged.
“He stops, and
says its too fast. I mean, what kind of guy stops his
girlfriend from going further? I mean, oral sex is no big deal, and its not like its full on sex. I just don’t see what the big
deal is… I thought we were ready for this and instead he wants…” Jenna paused.
“I just don’t know what he wants anymore.”
“I think you
need to talk to him.”
“I know I do… I
just can’t keep having this same argument with him. I mean, why can’t he just
be like a regular guy? Guys are supposed to be always horny and desperate for
action, right?”
Both girls were
silent for a moment, then burst out giggling at this
comment.
