Chapter two hundred and forty-seven:
Luke wandered through the bedroom of the hotel suite he was
sharing with Jen. She had decided to take a hot bath and get ready for bed.
While waiting for her to come out, he changed into a pair of
flannel pajama pants, but left his t-shirt on, so he could take it off to go to
bed.
He picked up a few random books and things that had been scattered
across the room and placed them neatly on the desk.
He then crossed the room and carefully folded down the blankets of
the bed, so that Jen could slide in easily.
He fumbled through her little stash of medical supplies to be sure
that they had everything necessary to last until at least her stitches were to
come out.
He then moved the make-up bag she kept these supplies in to her
over-night bag. He also checked to be sure she had her pills so they wouldn’t
leave without them.
“Checking up on me?” Jen asked, coming out of the bathroom.
Luke smiled and sat down on the edge of the bed. “No, no. I was
just checking to make sure we have everything we need for a couple of days.”
She nodded. “I figured.
Luke’s smile quickly disappeared. “Are you ready for bed?”
“I think so.” She shuffled from the bathroom door and climbed into
the left side of the bed.
Luke walked over and pulled the blankets over her feet, gently unfolding the
blankets to cover her legs.
“Luke, stop.” She said, as he pulled the blankets to her waist.
“You don’t have to do this.”
“Do what?” He asked in confusion and perched on the edge of the
bed.
“Take care of me like this.” She replied. “You don’t have to spend
every waking minute nursing me back to health.”
Luke smiled softly, and gently brushed a few stray strands of hair
from her cheek. “Love, I’m doing this because I want to and because I want to
make sure that you’re getting better as soon as possible. It’s for my own
neurosis that I’m here every second until you get better.” He smiled. “I’m
doing all this stuff so that I know you’re getting better.”
Jen appeared satisfied with that answer.
“Now, if you need me I’ll be out just out in the living room-“
“What?” She asked. “Why don’t you stay in here with me?”
“Jen, it’s fine. The sofa pulls out,
there’s plenty of room, and that way I’m sure I won’t disturb you.”
“You won’t!” She protested. “Look at all that room.” She motioned
to the empty side of the bed.
He sighed. “Jen, I really think-“
“It’ll make me feel better…” She urged.
Luke laughed. “Okay. I’ll stay. If you’re sure it’s okay.”
“We’ve slept together before…”
“Okay.” He leaned forward and kissed her goodnight, before
clicking off the light. He removed his shirt as he walked around the end of the
bed and climbed into the other side of the bed. He slipped beneath the sheets
and quickly settled on his back.
Jenna moved closer to him, and curled her body at his left side,
resting her head on his chest, and draping an arm across his body.
“Jen,” He whispered. “Your stitches.”
“You’re in bed with your girlfriend and you’re worried about
stitches?” She teased.
Luke laughed and put his arms around her.
