Chapter two hundred and thirty-two:

Jen was lying in bed boredly. Taylor kept checking in on her, which made it impossible for her to do anything. She couldn’t even get away with getting out of bed. She felt completely useless.

And to make matters worse, she hadn’t heard from Luke all day. She knew he had classes, but she still wanted to hear from him.

She heard a soft knock at the door and within seconds, Taylor’s face appeared. “Hey,” He said softly. “I was afraid you might be sleeping.”

“I’m awake.”

“I made you some tea.” He offered, entering the room and closing the door behind him.

“Thank you.” She pushed herself up on one elbow, “I’m really not thirsty.”

“Alright… Is everything okay? I’ve never known you to turn down tea before…”

“Yeah, I guess I’m just tired.”

“Want me to leave you alone so you can take another nap?”

“No… will you stay? Keep me company?”

“Sure.” He gently set the mug of tea down on the nightstand.

She sighed. “I wish I could get out of this damn bed.”

“Sorry.” He shrugged, sitting on the edge of her bed. “I promised Luke I’d take care of you.”

“I know…” She paused. “Has he called?”

“No, sorry. I thought he would. I figured he’d want to talk to you. I mean, since…” Taylor stopped himself.

“Since we’re leaving on the bus tomorrow.” She finished.

“He’ll call.” Taylor assured. “If not… I’ll just have to kick his ass.”

Jen laughed.

“How about… I read to you?” He asked, grabbing a random book from the pile on the nightstand. “’The American Anthology of Poetry” He read, “We could talk about poetry.” He suggested.

Jen smiled. “You don’t have to do that. You’ll be bored out of your mind.”

“No way! I like poetry. It’s like songs… without music. You know, like reading the liner notes to a CD.” He flipped through the book randomly.

Jen smiled. “Ok if you insist.”

“Sure. Where do we start?”

“Page forty seven is where I left off.” She pointed out eagerly.

Luke was sitting in class listening to a boring marketing lecture. The professor had been rambling on for over an hour, simply regurgitating what had been in the textbook.

This was a waste of time. He could have spent the time better if he were with Jenna, but instead he had to sit through another boring lecture.

He knew she was leaving the next day for several weeks, and he was going to have to spend weeks without her and the thought of that happening nearly killed him.

He sighed heavily and looked around the lecture hall.

Everyone else looked just as bored as he felt.

He wanted more than anything to just get up and walk out, and to drive his car straight to the Hanson’s house and see Jen.

If it were up to him he would skip his remaining lectures and just submit his papers, so he could be with Jen throughout her recovery.

He could drop out for a semester, but he was so close to graduation, he just couldn’t stand to loose the time.

He sighed and let his mind drift into dreams of what could be if he just didn’t have classes.
