Chapter two
hundred and twenty:
Christy emerged
from the public bathroom at a large open mall. They had gone to all of the popular
tourist haunts, taken walks along beautiful beaches and Isaac snapped two
key-cards full of photos on his digital camera.
When they had
seen everything, they had gone for dinner at a beautiful restaurant, then gone to a nearby mall to shop.
She had gone
into a maternity clothing store, but felt slightly overwhelmed and left without
purchasing anything.
She found Isaac
sitting on the bench, leaning forward with his head in his hands, and his phone
against his ear.
Christy approached
slowly and managed to hear part of the conversation.
“I don’t think I’ll
tell her,” He said, “It’s a lot to take in… There’s nothing we can do from here
anyway.” He listened for a moment. “I should go… Talk to you later. Buh-bye.”
He closed his phone.
Christy walked
around the front of the bench and sat next to him.
He smiled as if
nothing were wrong.
“Who was that?”
“It was Zac. He
was just-“
“No, tell me the
truth.” She interrupted. “Don’t lie to me.”
He sighed. “Alright….
Luke just took Jen to the hospital-“
Christy sat
forward. “Is she ok?”
“It turns out, she’s been making herself sick after she eats. She’s
really thin, and Luke took her to the hospital. She’s lost a lot of weight, and
the doctors think she might be malnourished…”
Christy covered
her mouth with her hands. “Oh my god.” She gasped.
“She’ll be okay.
There’s nothing we can do from here. We’ll be going home in a couple of days…”
“I know-“
“I think it’s
wise if we stay here, and finish our honeymoon. Jen wouldn’t want us to disrupt
our vacation.”
“I know that
too, but I meant that I knew… I mean, I knew something was up, her bridesmaid
dress all of a sudden got way too big for her, and I had to take it in, and…”
“C, it will be
okay. I’m sure she wouldn’t want to upset you especially with the baby-“
“I
know, I know… This is
just… scary.”
“Will you take
me back to the cabin? I… I think I want to call her.”
“Okay,” He
helped her to her feet, and put an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close.
She put her arm
around his waist.
“It’s okay, C.” He whispered.
Once outside, he
hailed a cab, and opened the back door. She slid inside and slid across the
backseat, allowing him to slide in next to her.
Isaac instructed
the driver to their cabin and sat back. Christy rested her head on his shoulder
and whispered “I love you.”
