Chapter sixteen:
Zac was flipping through the channels boredly at the hotel.
He sighed heavily.
There was a knock at the door and he got up to answer it. “Becky!” He said
excitedly, his day suddenly brighter.
”Hi, Zac.” She smiled and stood on her toes to kiss his
cheek shyly.
Zac felt a slight blush rise in his own. He was overcome with the urge to hold
her close and kiss her again and again…
He cleared his throat. “So? What are you doing today?” He asked closing the
door behind her.
Becky walked into the main room and sat down on the sofa, curling her legs
beneath her. “Well, I came over to see what you were doing. You’re watching
TV?”
”Yeah, but the service here sucks. Nine hundred channels and
nothing on.” He smiled.
”I found the same thing across the hall” she laughed.
”Well… let’s go out. There’s a movie theater down the street, is there anything
you want to see?”
”Well… Valentine is playing. I wouldn’t mind seeing that…”
”Valentine? What’s that? Some kind of chick flick?” He
teased.
”No,” She laughed. “I hate chick flicks.”
He smiled. He was starting to like her more and more.
”It’s supposed to be scary.” She finished.
”Okay. Let’s see that then.”
”Just give me a few seconds to get ready?”
”Sure.”

Being entirely bored and having finished filing and painting her finger nails,
Christy decided she would see what Isaac was doing. She grabbed her purse and
tucked her sketchbook under her arm and wandered down the hall and knocked on
his door.
After a second, he pulled open the door and smiled widely at her. “Hey!”
”Hi,” She smiled.
”I just called you. ‘The Shinning’ is on pay-per-view…”
”Ooh, I love that movie!”
”I know. That’s why I ordered it.”
She walked into the living room and sat down on the sofa.
”Do you want something to drink?” He called.
”Okay, thanks.” She would love something to drink right about then.
He returned with two cans of dr. pepper. Not exactly what she had in mind.
“Thanks.” She accepted the can.
He sat next to her and clicked on the television just as the beginning credits
were starting.
Christy moved closer to him, and gently laid her hand on his thigh.
He looked around nervously. “Hey, what’s this?” He asked, picking up her sketch
book.
”Oh, nothing.” She replied nervously, setting aside her
can of dr. pepper. She reached for the
book, but he held it away from her, flipping it open.
”Hey, I didn’t know you could draw… these are really good!” He turned the page
a few times and chuckled. “They’re great even though they’re all of me.”
Christy rested her head on his shoulder and flipped the page to a sketch of him
bent over an acoustic guitar in sound check. His eyes were closed in
concentration.
”That’s really good, Christy. I mean it.”
”Thanks.” She felt herself start to blush. She’d never shown anyone her
drawings before.
He smiled and leaned toward her and planted a kiss on her lips.

Jenna had gotten bored of sitting in the hotel room and decided she needed some
fresh air.
She stepped outside the hotel and found herself across the street from an
expanse of beach and vast blue Ocean.
She jogged across the street and removed her flip-flops, sinking her feet into
the warm sand. She found an empty spot and sank into the sand, hugging her bare
knees tightly, letting the warm wind lap at her skin.
Suddenly, a voice interrupted her thoughts. “This seat
taken?”
She looked up to see
He dropped down next to her and loosely draped his elbows over his bent knees.
He nudged her arm. “Hey, you know you’ve been out here for an hour?”
”Have I? I had no idea.” She said obliviously.
“What
are you thinking about?”
”I’m thinking… I want to go for a swim.”
He laughed out loud at that. “You’re crazy! That water is probably freezing!”
”So? Come with me!” She pulled him to his feet. He kicked off his shoes and
dropped his hat and sunglasses in the sand.
Jenna took off running down the beach wading into the water.
“You’re
going with all your clothes on?” He called after her, but she didn’t hear him.
He followed her, walking slowly through the water.
Jenna stood in the freezing ocean with the water lapping around her legs.
”Well? Are you going to swim or not?” He reached into
the water and playfully splashed her.
”Hey!” She cried in shock. “I’ll get you back for
that!”
”Oh yeah?” He laughed. “And how are you going to do that?”
She jumped on him suddenly causing them both to tumble into the frigid water.
They emerged at the same time, coughing and sputtering from the cold.
He allowed her to dunk him one more time before dragging her down with him
below the waves. When they surfaced a second later, they were both laughing.
”You’re insane!” She shouted.
”You’re the one who wanted to swim in the first place!” He shouted back with a
laugh. He tugged at a strand of her hair which hung in wet waves around her
face.
She moved to dunk him beneath the water again, but this time he caught her,
pulled her close and kissed her.

Zac sat next to Becky in his hotel room. Becky had left and returned with a movie she had borrowed from Jenna. He sat down with her to
watch ‘The Exorcist’ as she wrapped them both in a blanket.
He wasn’t cold, but he wasn’t going to pass up the chance to be close to her.
She jumped and turned her head away from the screen.
”Scared?” He asked, “It’s only a movie.”
”It’s based on a true story!” she defended.
He smiled to himself, “I thought you liked scary movies…”
”I do… this is supposed to be the scariest movie of all time!”
”Okay, we can turn it off…” He moved to get up.
”No!” She clutched his arm. “If I don’t see the end
I’ll have nightmares!”
He laughed, “That’s crazy!”
”You’re crazy.” She tousled his hair.
”Hey!” He chuckled.
She sighed, resting her head on his shoulder. “Can I ask you something?”
”Sure. Anything.”
”Do you have any single friends?”
He laughed and playfully tugged her braid. “What kind of a question is that? I
thought you liked me.”
She blushed. “I do… I meant for Jen. I hang out with you so much,
I think she’s starting to mope.”
Zac chuckled. “Okay, I’ll see what I can do.”
