Chapter 1 - Olivia
"This is Australia" boomed out of the loud speakers as Chantal and Megan made their way down the runway. I squirmed in my chair and self-consciously ran my fingers through my short reddish hair. Dad was busily scribbling notes onto a bright yellow legal pad as cameras flashed all around us. As she passed me, Chantal shot me a smirking grin. I made sure that no one was watching before giving her the finger. I tugged at my jumper, wishing that this shoot would hurry up and finish already. I was so bored but dad had a set itinerary for this trip and there was no room for me to have any time to myself.
I sipped the staunch vodka from my paper cup and sighed loudly in dad's direction, hoping that he would get the message. He didn't. Instead, he furrowed his brow and shushed me. I gave up and glanced out the window. Outside, the sun shone brightly as a brisk wind rushed past. I looked down at my feet where my purse lay. Without thinking about what I was doing, I picked it up and, after scrawling a quick note to dad I left the Melbourne town hall in search of shops.
The icy wind nipped my skin, making me shiver through my black leather pants. I pulled my coat tighter around myself and hurried down the street toward our motel. As fatbraindrops began bursting onto the pavement like shrapnel, I sighed and hailed a yellow taxi. "The Windsor!" I called urgently to the driver as I stuffed my bags into the back seat and clambered in behind them. He sped off only to stop a few feet down the street. "That $2.00 please thankyou come again lady nice thankyou" He garbled. I scowled at the foreign face in the mirror and handed him a crinkled $5 note before climbing back out of the car.
I made my way to the service desk. A woman in a too-tight jacket glared at me. "Can I help you?" She asked snootily. "Yes thanks, I'd like the keys to my room..." I began "I'm Olivia Thornton" Her head snapped up and she smiled sweetly, "Oh Miss Thornton, it's an honour to meet you" I rolled my eyes, used to this sort of reaction. All part of being the woman behind the man. The lady called for a bell hop. "Anthony! ANTHONY!Please take Miss Thornton's things to her room immediately!" I grinned at Anthony who was looking a little flustered. He smiled back warily at me. "Hello Miss Thornton, how do you do? Your father is Ford Thornton if I'm not mistaken" I grinned again. "Yup, but please call my Olivia or Livvie" He grinned. "Sure thing, see you around" He called as he set off with my bags.
I retrieved my key and set off across the foyer. Suddenly, a small child barrelled into me. I glared at him and the little boy presently burst into tears. I blushed as I bent to retreieve the spilled contents of my bag. I chucked him under the chin. "Hey, come on little fella, it's only a little bruise" I rolled up my sleeve, exposing a pink scar on my forearm "Wait till you get one like this" His eyes widened. "Wow!" He whispered. I grinned. "Hi, I'm Olivia" "I'm Flynn" He answered. I smiled at him as a shadow fell across us, "Flynn!" Cried an exasperated but familiar voice. "I've told you about running already! And look what you've done already" The tall, blond beauty bent to help me retrieve my things. We stood up together, Flynn's tiny hand clasped tightly in hers. "I'm really sorry about th...Olivia?" I glanced up into Elle's face. "Elle?" She grinned. "Yup, how's your dad?" I groaned and she giggled. "Same ol', same ol' he's still throwing hissy fits, he's got five newbies now and they're proving hard to tame" She grinned again. "A bit like this little fellow" She said, nodding towards a now struggling Flynn. "How's Courtney?" She asked. I smiled. "He's great, we're still going strong, what is it now, two years? Wow! Anyways I almost didn't recognise Flynn, he's grown so much. What are yopu two doing in Melbourne?" Elle groaned,. "A Guccie shoot. An absolute disaster so far off the record" She said touching her finger to her nose. I smiled and brandished my bag. "Well Elle, I must be going but give me a call, we'll do lunch" She grinned. "Sounds great...see you soon Livvie" With that she sashayed across the foyer amidst admiring glances and whisperes of: "Oh my gosh! That's Elle McPherson!" I grinned to myself at meeting an old friend and crossed to the elevators.
I sighed angrily as the elevator doors swished c losed just as I got there. Swearing softly under my breath I glanced around for another. Spying one on the third from the left, I jumped through the doors. I was just about to press the shut door button as a tall, blond guy jumped in beside me and slammed the doors closed. _______________________________________________________________________________________
Across the foyer, a strategically placed guard was watching the short skirt scantily covering Elle McOhersons legs rise and fall as she crossed the room with her young son resting on her hip. Suddenly, remembering his mission he glanced back at the elevator that was third from the left. Pressing the large, blue button on his walkie-talkie he spoke. "Ginger: The pig is in the spit" As Zac Hanson entered the elevator. _______________________________________________________________________________________
I glanced at the guy standing next to me. He was breathing heavily and his long hair that was the colour of golden wheat was damp. He looked at me. "Hi" He gasped. I smiled "Hello" I replied, with a feeling that I should have known him. He leant against the wall and glanced coolly back at me. "So?" He asked "So what?" I replied, confusedly So when does the screaming start?" He asked. I gasped as I realised who he was. "Oh...right...you're ZacHanson" I said, non-impressed. H smirked. "Yeah...that's me..." He shrugged "Anything to say to that? When does the screaming start?" I glared at him, he stared straight back at me, daring me to retaliate. "Please!" I snapped "You're tlaking to a girl that does lunch with Linda Evangelista and hangs out back stage with Christie Turlington!" He laughed out loud. "Yeah! Righ!" There was a shudder as the elevator came to a sudden halt, sending m,e s[prawling into Zac. We both ended up on the ground. "What's going on?" I cried as a red light snapped on. "Shit!" He mumbled "The elvators broken down" I groaned and pulled myself off of him. And then, as quickly as it had stopped the elevator started again, fasr than before. I gripped the metal bar for support and watchjed the counter. "Where are we going?" I asked as we passed my floor. "The roof" Zac muttered as the elevator stopped. I held onto his arm, suddenly fearful of what was waiting behind the doors. The doors pinged and slid open slowly, revealing two burly men with rifles. "Shit" Zac and I whispered together. "What the fuck?" One of them cried "Whewre are the fucking rest of them?" The other snapped back "Just get the fucking kids in the fucking chopper!"He grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him. I kicked out, my boot connecting with his crotch. He yelped in pain and Zac giggled. He staggered back to me. "You bitch!" He screamed "Who the fuck are you anyway?!" I screamed at the tops of my lungs. "Shut up!" He screeched, his fist hit me in the side of my head. I heard Zac moan. "Jesus Fucking Christ! Leave her alone! She's nobody!" He cried. There were more loud voices and the guy grabbed me around the waist, leaning his head close to my ear. "Watch yourself little pretty, he's right, your no one and no one will miss you" I shuddered and glanmced over to where Zac was being dragged towards the chopper. "Please let us go" I whispered. He laughed. "No fucking chance honey" He growled and threw me into the chopper. There was asnesation o f falling before everything went black.
