This memo is an update on projects that are being worked on.

Louisville:

Go system problems Practice software

Dee Dee’s software doesn’t work very well with long file names. Any files needing to be imported must be changed to the right file name. The go system cant recognize the file name if you don’t change it.

Network

The network was having some problems today with latency and low bandwidth at times.

 

Frankfort:

Tabitha V. problem

Her computer has had problems with the office suite software. I was going to give a cd for Tabitha to use to reinstall but I didn’t catch them at the Derby Museum.

Jeanna

Her laptop is very slow. It may need some programs uninstalled.

Tommie Richie

I am going to try to swap laptops out with Tommy when I make a trip to Frankfort.

 

Virginia:

Tape backup

I ordered the tape drive Friday. The work on the tape drive should happen on Wednesday if not Friday. I will make sure that Micro serve sets up the schedule. There needs to be an understanding that only a designated person should touch the server. The tape rotation will need to begin again. A test of the back up should be done. I will be shipping a tape to Toni soon for the server. I will send it with Phil’s laptop when I return it.

Phil Darcy’s laptop

Phil has had numerous problems with his laptop and connecting to the Internet. He recently updated his AOL. The AOL people messed something up and now the card won’t work. Phil wants me to recover some data and fix the computer.

Michigan:

I am waiting to receive a laptop from Stephanie. She is transferring files to her new laptop.

 

Misc.

Trip to Frankfort

I am going to try to make a trip to Frankfort this week.

Ongoing improvement projects

I am currently trying to think of a couple projects that will help improve my ability to serve the employees as the IT Specialist.

For example:

Topic: IT helpdesk web page

Details: This contains information on my activities both ongoing and past. The site also contains a link to a message board for employees to give me questions if they cant by email or phone. I am trying to get together drivers also so that the employees can download drivers for their devices. I am going to deciding on what to put on there. Other things I can put on there are (file clean up applications, AOL updated version, instruction on certain tasks that need to be known) maybe later on templates can be put on the site.

Topic: Education for employees (web page)

Details: I am going to send out an email to the employees about interest on putting some information on the web I.E. resume, links to professional sites ect. We can transport this info onto the company web page after it gets set up. I will have a template set up so the design will be simple.

                        Topic: Remote administration

Details: I am installing the “PC Any where” software on all the machines that come in for repair from now on. I will try to find a way to install it onto the server in Virginia as soon as possible. I want to make some problems easier to solve.
