soulDecision
Sweet 98 Listener Advisory Board private concert
The Music Box, Omaha NebraskaI had fun.
My friend Jill and I left work at five, got to the venue around six o'clock and stood in line for at least fifteen minutes. I'd never been to the Music Box before (it's an over-21 club) and I was impressed when we got inside. It was a really nice place. They had the stage set up by a dance floor and tables all around. It was surprisingly uncrowded. Jill and I sat at a table and cracked on what the teenybopper girls were wearing. Those girls got on my nerves after a while. People were setting up for soulDecision and the girls would scream every time someone walked through the doorway. They screamed for the guy with a broom. They screamed for the guy who set up the guitar stands. They screamed for the towel guy. TOO MUCH SCREAMING.
The DJs from the station came on stage (one of whom is like... the cutest boy I've ever seen) and talked to the crowd a little bit. They answered questions ("No, *NSYNC is not going to make an appearance at Sweetstock this year... they have a show in Hershey, Pennsylvania that night but Lance called us personally and said that they would have been there if they could have been"), bantered a little, and basically got us all riled up for soulDecision. Finally, they came out.
Because I am a big nerd, I took notes during the concert. Wouldn't want to omit any details for y'all.
Here's their set list:
"Only In My Mind"
"Ooh It's Kinda Crazy"
"Hungry Like the Wolf"
"Hello, How Are You" (not sure that's the title)
"I Don't Need Anyone"
"Next Time"
"Summer of 69"
"Faded"Randoms (because I have no train of thought):
- "Hello, How Are You" is a new song that they just recorded. It's a slower tempo than "Faded" or "Ooh" and it's really nice. This was only the fifth or sixth time they'd ever performed it. I can't wait for it to be a single. I wrote down the first line of the chorus, and it goes like this: "Hello, how are you, I miss you. I've been waiting for some sunlight to fall." I want to hear the whole thing again. Gah.
- Between "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Hello, How Are You", some girls gave the guys some Sprees (you know... those candies). Apparently you can't get them in Canada. Who knew? The guys said "thanks" and then the girls all started taking pictures. Trevor said, "Oh! We're taking pictures now?" and posed all cheesily with the Sprees. Too funny.
- After "I Don't Need Anyone" Dave announced that "there's been a request for Ken to come down and talk." Ken came out from behind his keyboards to the main mic and said, "Hi everyone. How ya doin'? I'm just pissed that I didn't get any Sprees." Someone gave him some. :) Later on during "Summer of 69," Jill noticed that Ken was eating them as he was playing. LOL! I guess that's one advantage for not singing.
- Before "Next Time," Dave said, "I just want everyone to know that Trevor wrote this next song when he was in the bathtub." Trevor (to Dave): "No I didn't! You and I wrote it in my living room!" Dave: "Yeah right." (to the crowd) "He was in the bathtub with his little toy rubber ducky using it as the snare drum. (makes rubber ducky noises)" Hahahaha. They did an autograph signing after the show, so we got to meet them a little bit and chat and all that good stuff. Jill and I got a pretty good spot in line so we only waited about twenty minutes or so. We lucked out. Waiting in line was kinda fun though... we chatted a little with the girls behind us who were disappointed that they didn't say "eh"... what with them being Canadian and all. I said I was bummed they didn't say "aboot." Hehe.
The line started to move, and we got up to the table where they were signing. I had them sign my CD. I'd actually bought the CD a few weeks ago but I just took it out of the packaging this morning. I haven't even had a chance to look at the enhanced stuff yet. Anyway. I'm digressing... anyway. So we get up to the table, and here's the gist of what took place:
Ken: Hi, what's your name?
Me: Rachael. Oh! And I wanted to tell you that "Gravity" is my favorite song on the CD.
Ken (really quietly): Thanks. It should be released here pretty soon.
Me: Oh, was it a single already in Canada?
Ken: Yeah.
Me: Cool. Thanks!
Dave: Hi.
Me: Hi. You guys were awesome. If you're tired or worn out or anything, I couldn't tell. You looked like you were having a blast.
Dave: Oh did we? Thank you.
Trevor: (grins like an idiot)
Me: Hi. (indicating Jill) You guys converted my friend.
Trevor (to Jill): Oh, you didn't like us before?
Jill: I'm a Limp Bizkit fan.
Me: But she likes you now.
Trevor (grinning like an idiot): Say 'hi' to Fred for me.
Me: Thanks guys.Outside...
Me: Ugh! Did you hear me? I like... completely rambled to Dave.
Jill: "Say 'hi' to Fred for me?"
Me: Yeah. That was lame.
Jill: But he was hot.Yes, he was hot. VERY hot. The show was fun, and Jill ended up having a good time even though she didn't really like either of their songs that are played on the radio. "They just pick bad singles I guess," she said. She liked all the other songs.
Hey look! Pictures.
Also, check out soulDecision.com. I just went there to look for a picture to put up here, and I found out it's a VERY well put together site. It's probably the best official site I've ever seen for a band. It made me laugh.
