Cups of silver or colored glass now are used to represent the element of water - the west direction. Although there is no hard and fast rule here. You could use a paper cup filled with water or cider if you want to. The Cauldron (used most among the Irish Wiccans) is absolutely associated with Goddess and symbolises abundance and rebirth. The depth of the cauldron and the mother goddesses womb -giving life and taking it back only to give it agian - and the crone is very strong symbolism among the Irish wiccans/pagans. Interestingly enough, the cauldron is associated with the end of the world. When humans have lost all virtue, good old goddess of fate - Badb (meaning the one who stirs) - would churn the cauldron of destruction which in turn would boil over and the earth would become a wasteland of nothingness followed by a three year winter. Hmmm... finding parallels with a nuclear holacust here. Caulrons have three legs representing the Triple Goddess - virgin, mother, and crone. A cauldron can also have four legs represent the elements - water, earth, air, and fire. Another cauldron symbol is the horn. When the horn is filled with water it is then complete - the joining of the Horned God and the Goddess. |

The censor is a basic tool to burn incense, incense papers, or most things you wish to burn with in it. To make a censor is simple. Get a bowl and fill it 3/4 of the way up with sand or salt. I just went to the beach with my dog and hubby the other day and grab a glass full of sand to put in my censor. You will also need some small charcole blocks to put in the censor if you wish to burn loose herbs, barks, etc... |
