I count the candles on your cake,
as my mind a journey begins to take.
The years fall off as I begin to see,
the beginning of answered prayers for me.

Our lives were forever changed,
on the day that you were born.
You were an answer to our prayers,
and endless sense of joy we would share.
You grew more lovable everyday,
and made us happy in everyway.

Your toothless grin our hearts did win.
Your crazy hair sticking out everywhere.
The way you ran instead of walked.
The way you talked and talked and talked.
"Who made the clouds in the sky? Did you
know that birds can fly?"
"What makes the world go round? What does
it look like underground?.

These are the things from the past,
that make the memories that last and last.
Where did the days of amazement go?
I guess they stopped as the child did
grow.

Now as I gaze into your eyes,
I can only look and sigh.
It's not a child that I see,
looking back at me.
It's the young man you've grown to be,
shaped and fashioned by God's loving hand.
